Did most of You all get your child's diagnoses when they were little?

I was wondering because my child is 15 years old. Me, my sister in-law and I knew that my son

had autism when he was young but no one wanted to listen to what we thought. He has went

to a dr. where they did supposedly check him from autism. They had me fill out this paper with

with the signs that he displayed of autism, well he had most of the signs or I thought so and

the teacher that he had had only two months, said that he didn't have the signs. Well of

course the dr. believed the teacher over us who have known him all his life. It was so very

irritating that they did that. Well now that he his 15 years old he was observed by a specailist

for about 3-4days and they said yes he has autism. Well Duh we could have told them that!

In about every ARD meeting every year we tried to pursuade them to have him tested because

we knew it may help them teach him better if they knew that he did indeed have autism. Well

finally we got our wish finally! Well any responses would be great. Also any advice would be

greatly appreciated. Thanks Pamela

Oh yeah this sounds familar

The teacher and school didn't want to pay for the things he would need in school like OT, Speech, and so much more. My youngest was dianosed finally when he was 6 almost 7. The school he was going to pulled the same bs although my first son that I gave up had autism too and I knew my baby had it. Finally we took him to someone who does the testing and he said it is very clear your son has this. He has been diagnosed 5 times after and what really chaps my butt is that the school was dumb enough to pull this. The school also didn't feel he needed special ed, every day he'd have a tantrum and they had to have me pick him up. We live in another state and he gets all the things he needs from his doctor and school, and a few other things that we have him in. You will find a lot of us probably went through this. Schools most of the time will do this because they don't want to pay . My brain is fried but alot of states have a resource center that helps with children (or if you get your child in before 21) adults. They really help alot. I'd really look into it. They can go to the school with you and make sure your son is getting what he needs. Look into it.
