Katie Couric - Horse Boy

Katie Couric just did a piece on a family from Texas with an autistic little boy named Rowan. They decided to try horse riding as therapy. OK, hippotherapy is a recognized form of OT.

The family traveled to Mongolia. Rowan continued to work with horses and then worked with Mongolian "medicine man" shaman. The family now claims he is not cured, but substanailly improved.

The father even wrote a book - Horse Boy.

The story might be on the CBS website.

Horse Boy

Thank you! I had heard of the book but had no idea that was what it was about. My ds (Asperger's, SPD, hypotonia) did hippotherapy from age 3 to 5. He got so much from it along with many other therapies.

Now I am really interested in reading this book!

So you did ABA? We have had in-home since last October. My son will be 7 soon. I had a really bad afternoon/evening with him today and cannot figure it out. He hit me 4 times and had 6 tantrums after school today. This is very unusual for him these days. I am beside myself. Just came on this board to connect. Although there doesn't seem to be much action here. Anyhow, just wallowing in my pity party.

Thanks for the info.
Molly

Horse Boy

My daughter, who is developmentally delayed and has some autistic like symptoms, did some horseback riding therapy. She took to it like a duck to water. It was amazing watching all the people with various disabilities riding. There was one male, about 18, who was constantly moving, had tics, very vocal, very aggressive -- once he was on the horse the difference was amazing -- quiet, focused, calm and no tics. It is truly amazing.

Kina.

Maybe not...

Are there any cell phone towers in Mongolia?

It may not have been the horse therapy that helped this little boy improve, but rather his temporary removal from an environment in which his brain had been being microwaved. Microwaves have been proven to interfere with the detoxification of impurities and heavy metals in the brain, essentially trapping them inside the brain.
