Lowering Cholesterol w/o statins

Ok, this has been discussed over times here and thought I'd post a new thread....had dinner with a friend the other night and her friend is lowering cholesterol with higher doses of niacin....she does not want to do statins....don't blame her for a second.

This person has worked up to 3000mg niacin (flush type) every day....2 - 500mg caps right after each meal....she worked up to this dose and it's working for her....the flushing becomes less and less too with time.....

Do a search on the benefits of niacin, I take the flush type usually but only 100mg after a meal....my issues are not cholestrol but I do it for good prevention...and if you decide to go this route work up the dosing.....talk to MD if you feel that is necessary. jam

Check with doctor first

Certainly check with your doctor first. High doses of Niacin can cause serious problems for diabetics and interacts badly with some medications.

Niacin to boost your HDL, 'good,' cholesterol (see below)
