Help Please...Painful lymph nodes

This could be a very long story, but for know I will cut to it---as typing hurts. All the research I have done says "painless swollen lymph nodes" as symptoms for lymphoma. I have talked personally to many people who all say they HAD pain prior to noticable swelling. Mine started under left arm and neck. Then moved across chest to under other arm. Now is also in groin area. I have lost 20 lbs in less than 2 months. I am so tired. I just feel sick. I have been tested for mono, flu, ...alll the usual. My SED rate is elevated. Docs are taking a wait and see attitude. I am freaking out , because i know i just don't feel right. My area is not well known for there great medical treatment. I lost my insurance last year and now have a state medical card....so that limits my options. So, much for keeping this short. Just wondering if anyone else experienced pain, and for any input at all. Thank you.

Ma

Painful, Swollen Lymph Nodes

Hi and thanks for posting your message. Although, I am not DX with Cancer I also have very painful and swollen lymph nodes, (under arm pits, neck, chest) and a lot of weakness. I am Dx with CFS -ME and FMS along with many other wonderful syndromes. Neg for mono, flu, STD's, HIV, Hep, ect...However, troublesome upper GI problems that occurred at onset of Dx in 97. Can't help, but feel this is a central nervous system infected by an unknow virus. At flare up I get confused, lethargic, speesh is affected, nervous in general -sight and perception, ect...sound familure?

Strange, I have asked my Rheumy to take a look at my swollen lymph nodes, but he manages to dodge this request every time. Says "that's the CFS/FMS", not to worry.

Anyway, are you Dx with Cancer, CFS -ME? How did it all start?

T~

Painful lymph nodes

Dear Ma:

Not sure if you got another opinion, but wanted to tell you that I have NHL and had NO noticable swollen lymph nodes. All mine were called "internal". I had a CT scan for heart/gastro problems in Nov 2007 and nothing was seen as abnormal. 1 year later I had CT scan to measure pulmonary vein for cardiac ablation to hopefully cure atrial fib. Found lots of swollen lymph nodes and other tumors. Largest being nearly 11 inches long near my kidney. I had night sweats and lost about 40 pounds 10 months before...and also had itching, but primary doctor said it was due to dry skin, and RA (which I also have). I had biopsy done on tumor, and then PET scan. Diagnosed with stage 3 large diffuse B cell Non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Did 6 rounds of potent chemo called R-CHOP. Fortunately, PET scan showed no evidence of disease. Unfortunately, chemo med killed my heart and I had to have a pacemaker/defib put in.

I have since been told my rheumy that some of my RA symptoms can be very similar to NHL and NHL symptoms can be similar to RA. SO, my advice to you would be to find another doctor willing to do some more blood tests, and if they are abnormal, perhaps a CT scan.

Good luck and hopefully you will post with some good news.

Ingrid
