so confused

I've been on this Candida diet for about 6 weeks (with a bit of cheating because sometimes I just freak out and need sugar). I'm inspired to keep going as my naturopath told me that another month should do it. I'm skeptical to get my hopes up though as I see that some people deal with this condition for years.

My symptoms have been horrible acne and I also have bacterial vaginosis that my naturopath said could be due to the Candida as well.

I feel like there is a lot of conflicting information regarding the diet. I guess each individual needs to figure out what works for them? I'm confused as to whether or not we are allowed hummus (as it contains citric acid which I didn't think was ok) and apple cider vinegar as I thought that all vinegars were no nos.

I'm trying to stay positive about this but it's so hard. I'm so tired all the time and feeling so depressed. I'm glad to have found this online community.

Hi Diane

It's nice to meet you too and thanks so much for replying to my posting. It's comforting to know that other people are struggling with this too. After reading a lot of these postings, I realize that I'm lucky because I don't deal with the wide variety of symptoms that a lot of other people do.

Thanks for sharing those websites with me, I checked them out and they're very informative. I'm trying to get all the information I can about Candida. I'm also reading The Yeast Connection and the cookbook that goes along with it. I'm dairy intolerant so I can't do the recipes that have milk or milk products in them.

I have discussed my diet with my naturopath but now I'm wondering if she even knows what she's talking about since she told me I could eat organic peanut butter which doesn't make sense since we're not allowed peanuts. I'm glad to read on that website that apple cider vinegar "with the mother" is okay. How do you use it? I was thinking of mixing it with olive oil for a salad dressing.

I still crave sugar like crazy. Just the smell of sugar in the grocery store makes me crave it. I fell off the diet last weekend and ate an entire bag of marshmallows by a fire! From what my naturopath has told me, if you eat anything you shouldn't, it takes you back to square one with the candida. So I think that the fatigue and depression that I've been dealing with the last week is because I'm pretty much starting all over again with the die-off symptoms.

The brain fog that I deal with can be pretty bad too. My memory is awful. I hope that it gets better when I follow the diet strictly. I find that the conflicting information is frustrating because I feel like I just want someone to tell me conclusively what to eat so I can eat it and do away with this candida overgrowth for good. Does it go away for good or will I always have to have a sugar-free diet? Sometimes I feel so hopeless.

How did you figure out that candida was the source of your problems? Was it a medical doctor? I want to go and see my doctor just for a test and a second opinion but am hesitant because of what I read about medical doctors either not being informed about candida or not believing in it.

Thanks for your support Diane, I really do appreciate it.

Ashley

also...

I am on probiotics (lactobacillus acidophilus, bifidobacterium bifidum) but am just beginning to read about other supplements like Pau D'arco. I'm also on Statin capsules that have vitamin e, biotin, calcium, sodium caprylate, potassium, caprylic acid, sorbic acid and propionic acid in them.
