omnipod insulin pump

Has anyone any experience with the omnipod insulin pump? I have a few questions about this.

Sorry, but no.

But I do have 5 years experience pumping so I can go into some details about why I didn't think the omnipod would be right for me.

omnipod pump question

I do not have a pump yet. My doctor wants me to get one. She thinks that the omnipod pump would be one that I would not mind so much. I take 5 to 6 shots a day and am seriously considering a pump. Do you feel you have better control with your pump? Why do you feel that you would not like the omnipod pump? How do the other pumps hook to you? I do have other questions, but I do not want to bombard you with too many all at once. Thanks.

Minimed

I've used Minimed pumps for the past 22 years, so I can't tell you anything about the Omnipod. I didn't even know there were other pump companies out there until a few years ago, but I would suppose they are all pretty close to how they work. I feel I have pretty good control with my pump, but I also test a lot and adjust my boluses to keep my blood sugar down. One of the things I like best about it, is once you get the basals figured out, you can just rely on the pump to take care of your insulin needs and bolus when you eat something. Deidre

more pump questions

This may sound like a crazy question. On my arms where I have taken shots they have gotten big. One of my friends says that I have popeye arms. I know that the most common place for insulin pumps is the stomach. I was wondering if you had noticed anything like this with your stomach. And if so do you know of any way to avoid this? Also what about sleeping? Is it difficult to sleep wearing a pump? This is just some setbacks I have about getting a pump. Thanks.

pump ?

I always attach the needle in my stomach area. I tried my thighs when I first got it, but it didn't seem to absorb the insulin as well as the stomach area and I was pg and didn't want to mess it up trying new areas, just stayed with what worked best. It seems like it would be hard to do it one handed, if you used your arms as the site. I used to be a stomach sleeper, and don't do that anymore, but that's probably from going through 2 pregnancies rather than the pump. I use the 42 inch tubing and the pump clips to your waistband or anywhere you can attach it. Deidre

Omnipod is huge and costs a lot monthly

I recently went to a show where all the pumps were there and I saw it, it was huge... the monthly costs are a lot more then other pumps.

I wear a minimed... I HATE MINIMED... The service is terrible. I would never own one again.

I love pumping, I am thinking of the waterproof Animus, it seems easy to use.

The other one I was thinking of is the Accu-chek, they send you a spare pump, but it seems like there are a lot of gadgets to operate.

You would love pumping, but you should never consider a minimed pump.

omni pod

I forgot to tell you, omnipod will give you a sample pod to wear to see if you can handle a huge growth under your cloths for 3 days at a time.

You would get used to the other kind, I would recommend that....But Minimed Sucks.

Omnipod is huge and costs a lot monthly

I've had diabetes for over 40 years and been pumping for over twelve years and have always been on the Minimed pumps. I have had nothing but excellent service be it with the sales/order department or billing. I am suprized you have had such bad service. Have you had problems with the Minimed pump(s) itself or is it just the customer service you're dissatisfied with? Just curious. :)

I upgraded my pump just a few months ago to the MiniMed Paradigm and absolutely love it. ncrc, if you haven't already gotten a pump by now, I would visit www.minimed.com and get more information about this particular pump. I will mention too that before I upgraded I had heard about the Omnipod and discussed it with my endocrinologist. He was more in favor of the minimed product. I have no regrets going with the MiniMed Paradigm. In any case best wishes to you.
