PLEASE POST YOUR GOOD DOCTOR HERE :) :) :)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Hi all, I just got done reading hannahfeid's post in regards to the "good Dr list" being so outdated......
Let's do something about this and start a list of our own here to help each other out......... which is what this board is all about ;)....
I will start with my pain management Dr...I actually found his name from the cfids foundation.....they email me a letter every so often and they had a list of Dr's that treat dd............
The pain Dr I now see is :
Dr. Forest Tennant 1195 S Sunset Ave West Covina, CA 626-
He does NOT take ins......but if you google his name you will find that he has done extensive work in the field of intractable pain (which is what most of us have ) on his website it clearly explains what intractable pain is....
He currently hosts seminars to educate other physicians on the necessity of pain medications and pain management for patients with intractable pain.......
Once Dr Tennant establishes you as a patient he works very hard to find the exact combination of medications necessary to control your pain!
He is definatly a genius at knowing and prescribing narcotic medications to help his patients control their pain so they can better function in life.
In fact he has taught me how BAD it is to NOT keep your pain under control!
If you have any questions please feel free to ask me ;)
Hugs Doxy
EDIT FROM PROHEALTH: Please indicate the state or city in the title when you post about your doctor, so others can search more easily. [This Message was Edited on 04/14/2008]

Sorry,
|
I'm probably just going to rant and rave, but have to get this off my chest.
I'm so tired of having to go to these DRs that don't take any insurance!!
My husband and I are only 57. I'm on SSDI and Medicare with his retiree ins. as backup. He retired early to help care for me.
I just spent thousands of dollars at the Holtorf center for almost a year and just got more sick.
Now my GP wants me to go to the MCS center in Dallas for 6 wks outpatient testing which could cost up to $25,000.
I finally said No, I'm done. I can't see bankrupting us after 37 yrs of marriage and great credit.
Lucky for me, my GP does give me pain, sleep, antidep., muscle relaxers and hormone meds, but not all of them are covered by ins.
Somedays I don't think it's worth it anymore to keep giving these DRs money, money, money. And for what???
For what it's worth, my GP is a wonderful alternative, holistice MD, in Fresno, CA, Sue Stone. She's tried everything with me and no improvement.
Again, sorry for the ranting. Hope someone out there is getting better.
Gentle hugs...Kathie

I hear you !!and you have to vent to someone. Holding anger and resentment inside ourselves is what helped to get us here in the first place. Hope you find help. Just keep praying that God will lead us, and try to forgive the rest--Lest it make us worse. Hugs grace

NC Doctors
|
I don't have a good doctor, I have a wonderful doctor. However, I live in such a small town that I don't know if it will do any good to post his address but I will anyway.
Stephen C. Seltzer Albemarle Medical Services 105 Yadkin St # 301 Albemarle, NC 28001 (704) 982-9144
I have been going to him since I was 13 or 14 and he had just started private practice. I moved away for 8 years but I am back now.
When I lived in Greenville, NC I had two good doctors (not as good as Dr. Seltzer but to me , no one is!). I will list them as well:
Dr Mark Cervi Carolina Internal Medicine 2460-a Emerald Place Greenville, NC 27834 Couldn't find his phone number on the Internet
Dr. Kirk Philpot PHYSICIANS EAST : QUADRANGLE MEDICAL 1850 West Arlington Blvd. Greenville, NC 27834 (252) 752-6101 Maybe this will help someone!

I do not blame you one bit!
Sadly.....i agree with you "money, money, money"!!!!!!
Unfortunately the Drs that I "can" go to through my ins do NOT do a thing for me!
All my pcp does is prescribe medications "BUT" never pain meds that are effective.....I have discussed with my pcp so many times how my meds are not effective and I need a change.......
Always he would write an rx for the same med and the same dose!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once I was in a terrible and lingering flare.........I called my Dr after about a week of this and told him I needed something stronger as I was crying in so much pain.......
his secretary took the info, discussed this with him...called me back and told me to take my med every six hours ( the same med )
"DUH" I was already rx'd by him to take one every six hours I was so frustrated I just said "ok" and hung up!
That is why I now pay out of my own pocket to see a pain specialist......at "least" he is really trying hard to find just the right combination of pain meds that work for me!
Other Dr's just don't want to bother......and this one does for me!
As far as the prescriptions go........I have spent over 200.00 just this month alone for medications that my medical ins will not pay for!!!!!!!!!!
I do not want to pay for medical ins any more what is the use when nothing is covered we are double paying in my opinion.....we pay our med ins premium and then when we go to a Dr or a pharmacy we pay for everything there too!
Who is making out here? hmmmmmm?
Thanks for the posts Doxy

Hi
|
My doctor does take insurance. He is director of pain management for Little Company of Mary in Torrance.
Dr. Rick Chavez Phone number (310) 798-1633
510 N Prospect Ave Redondo Beach, CA 90277-3028, US
See info below from his website..
The P.A.I.N.Institute is dedicated to the compassionate treatment of patients suffering from some form of unrelenting pain. Designed to provide in-patient and outpatient services under the leadership of Medical Director Dr. Rick Chavez, our multidisciplinary pain management program includes the essential components necessary for stabilization and recovery.
The specialty of Pain Medicine is concerned with the study of pain, prevention of pain, and the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of persons in pain. Some conditions may have pain and associated symptoms arising from postoperative pain or pain associated with a malignancy, or may be conditions in which pain constitutes the primary problem, such as neuropathic pains or headaches.
The evaluation of painful syndromes includes interpretation of historical data; review of previous laboratory, imaging, and electrodiagnostic studies; assessment of behavioral, social, and occupational issues; and interview and examination of the patient by Dr Chavez.
It may require specialized diagnostic procedures, including central and peripheral neural blockade or monitored drug infusions. The special needs of geriatric populations, and patients' cultural contexts, are considered when formulating a comprehensive treatment plan at The P.A.I.N. Institute.
As the “hub of the wheel” Dr Chavez serves as a consultant to other physicians but is the principal treating physician and may provide care at various levels, such as direct treatment, prescribing medication, prescribing rehabilitation services, performing pain relieving procedures, counseling patients and families, directing a multidisciplinary team, coordinating care with other health care providers and providing consultative services to public and private agencies pursuant to optimal health care delivery to the patient suffering from pain and/or addiction.
Pain Management and Addiction Medicine are two specialized fields of medical practice that share a strong common interest in the mechanisms, clinical use, risks and benefits associated with opioid drugs and other therapies involving potentially abusable medications.
In addition to these pharmacological issues, there are profound clinical interactions between the potential of addictive disorders and the occurrence of unrelieved pain that influence both the management of substance use disorders and the care of pain patients.

Good Dr
|
Hi,
My FM Dr is Dr Daniel Dantini in Ormond Beach, FL. He has a website and does phone consultations for patients who do not live close by.
He also has FM and is very open minded. He believes that antivirals and delayed food allergy testing followed by an elimination diet, and correcting our circadian rhythm to create restorative sleep, are key to feeling better. I have found him to be right...along with other healthy lifestyle factors such as regular exercise.
When he first mentioned how sensitive foods can really contribute to our symptoms, I thought "maybe in your case, but I don't think I have that problem"...well, was I wrong!!! I am feeling better thanks to him.
The phone consults are not covered by insurance, but my testing was, minus my deductible and copay.

Thought I had a good Doc until...
|
Hi Folks!:)
I'm new to the site, I've had FMS for over 8 years but had a pretty good pain mgmt. system. But my reum Doc just screwed me over big time and I feel assaulted and hurt and came looking again for fellow supporters.
So glad to have found you folks, I remember now that I'm not crazy or alone and that the good Doc's are hard to come by.
I had a dispute over a bill and they brought me in under false pretenses to get a refill on pain meds. But what actually happened was a bullying by the secretary and even the Doc. himself to get me to sign an agreement to pay the bill. They bullied me for over 40 min.; I had a panic attack and now question the whole medical Doc's in this field. He dropped me as a patient, (I wouldn't go back there anyway) so I need a new Doc. I've reported him to the proper authorities. Now the pain and mental anguish are even worse.
I live near that Doc in North Canton Ohio...maybe I'll try him?
Nice to meet you all, thanks for listening.
Sincerely, Liz

Looking for Doc in Central MS
|
I am looking for a doctor. I live in Central MS and work full time at a very high stress job that I love. Although I love my GP, he doesn't really acknowledge FM--I didn't want to believe I had it for years. Now I am accepting it and ready to tackle this thing.
Any suggestions? I am broke and it would have to be someone who takes insurance.
Thanks in advance.

or Fort Collins, Colorado, who has some degree of knowledge on CFIDS? Also, someon, who is flexible, when one needs to try out various treatment...Reasonable fees (don't have health insurance)..and someone who would assist one in obtaining Disabiliy..as I have waited for about twenty years to apply for it, since the inital filing, when no one knew anything about CFIDS.

My Doc
|
I am so happy that I found my doctor when I did. She is not primarily a pain doctor, she is a Family Practitioner but is listed as one of the best in the US. She works very hard with me trying to control my pain, trying out new things and putting up with me always coming in with "something new". She was very good at not chaulking a "new" pain up to being just FM and because of that we found an 11 pound cyst on my ovary which could have been life threatening.
She is very understanding and helpful and explains things very well.
Dr. Nikki Lang 634 Pine St. Philadelphia, PA 19106
You can look up her phone number on verizon superpages very easily.
I live in NJ and I drive 45min each way whenever I go see her which is one or two times per month but she is well worth the drive!

I just saw Dr Sharp. I am impressed with him. I am on a lot of supplements again. Now he thinks I may have fibro on top of CFS. He says I fit the criteria. He did a lot of labs, I will see him in September to go over the labs and see what we will do next. I have a lot of confidence in dr sharp. Not in love with the pay up front idea, but I have run out of options. They do file your insurance paperwork for labs... I got his name from the old 'good doctor's' list. Took me 2 months to get an appointment. This is the BEST rheumatologist I have ever seen. I cried when I got home because he really know FM and all it's treatments. I have alot of OA also and he immediately took xrays and blood work. Has been giving me cortisone injections and aspirated fluid from my hip and shoulder. Has put me on new meds. And best news yet - I got a letter from SSA today saying that they have finally approved me - and I'm sure this is only since they got my latest reports from this doctor. ...Bobbi

Good Doctors Are there any in Utah?
|
I am seeing a good doctor right now but he wants me to have injections that I really don't want to have. I have told him that I don't like the odds of the knee injections that are for lubraction. The odds are 30/70 30 % of the time they work and 70% of the time they don't. It is not worth it to me to have needles in my knee's.
I wish I could just find a good pain doctor that would just treat me for the pain and not try to cure me . I have other conditions besides fibro. I have end stage osteo arthritis both knee's, Degenrative disc disease, spinal stenosis, buldging discs, arthritis in my left wrist from shattering it, pain in my tail bone.
ON my first visit he asked me "So when are you going to get your knee's replaced ?" I said "Not any time soon". It is not that I don't want to be cured but most of the pain I have is long term and not fixalbe. I would like to have some one who belived in treating my pain and not trying to do things that don't work well. I am one of those people who have had bad reactions to meds, steriods alot, Utram , Toradol,Cymbalta and other antidepressants.
I really don't want to keep trying meds that seem to only make me feel worse and make me sick all the time. I would just like to have a good day where my pain is reduced and when I see the doctor he is more concerned about how I react to the pain meds he gives me. Is that too much to ask?
I had a good pain doctor but he had some legal problems and I don't know if he is still in practice.
Thanks ~HUGS~ Rosemarie

In San Francisco I see
|
Bay West Family Health Care: Bishop Barbara MD 1580 Valencia St # 201 San Francisco, CA 94110 (415) 550-0811
Someone wrote this review: Anonymous (San Francisco, CA) – April 04, 2007
She is friendly and seems concerned but she is too busy. One year she skipped my labs and I have a family history of cancer and diabetes. I am afraid she is going to overlook something because she has too many patients.
I agree she's very busy but she's been good for me for CFS.
I also see Northern California Arthritis: DR. Dixit Rajiv K MD
120 La Casa Via # 204 Walnut Creek, CA 94598 (925) 210-1050
He's a rheumy that I see for my LTD for FMS.
I want to also respond to what someone else wrote. No, I did not get CFS/ME and secondary FMS from holding in resentment or anger etc...I was in the prime of my life and having a great time in college and I wasn't under pressure or anything. Life was good, I was in great shape, everything was working out well for me. I was a happy camper.

Dr. Wright works at Meridian Health Group. They are a pain clinic and take all sorts of insurance. Besides Dr. Wright, there is another pain doctor named Dr. Gould. They also work with Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapist, Psychologists, Psychiatrist, Podiatrist, and a Sleep Doctor. They are all at this clinic. Dr. Arbuck, the Psychiatrist, is also a Pain Doctor. They have all done the best for me since I was diagnosed 10 years ago.
Dr. Guyer treats patients unorthodoxically and does not take insurance. I met him years ago and found him to be very arrogant. I didn't like him at all.
Before I found Meridian Health Group, I went to a Dr. Kevin Logan (across the street from Community Hospital North). He is a "regular" doctor but also treats his patients unorthodoxically. He also does not take insurance. He got to be too expensive for me. Then I found Meridian Health Group and knew I found the best group of doctors for me.

Good doctor - southern California
|
First, doxygirl, thank you so much for starting this thread. It is sooooooo needed.
My CFIDS doctor is Phillip Taylor in Thousand Oaks, CA. His phone is (805) 497-3839. He is semi-retired, office is only open Tues, Weds & Thurs, and it takes 4 months or so to get an appointment. He does hair analysis and food allergy testing.
He's the one who qualified me for SSDI.
He is extremely knowledgable about nutrition and how the body works on a cellular level, prefers to work with supplements whenever possible.
I don't have FM pain, so don't know how he is with that.
He is very open-minded and stays up on current research and is willing to listen to things I've researched.
He had me do an impedance cardiography exam which showed some heart abnormalities, as outlined in Dr. Peckerman's article. He told me that 12 out of his 14 CFIDS patients had this problem.
He takes Medicare (but is not on my Medicare HMO list), and he has kept his prices reasonable.
I am just afraid he is going to fully retire one of these days . . .

I had been seeing Dachman--a rheum and pain specialist in Schuamburg, but the minute my ins changed and started covering less, his compassion went right out the window. I couldnt afford the rate changes so i stopped going. that was many months ago.
I need someone in the burbs....Arlington Hts, Palatine, Buffalo Grove, Schaumburg, Barrington, Wheeling...or surrounding areas. I can't sit long enough to drive to Chicago. Anyone have any recommendations? [This Message was Edited on 08/22/2007]

Great pain doc
|
I've got the greatest pain specialest . Arthur Ford of Kingman Arizona . When I first went to see him in 2000 he had to refuse to treat me because at the time I was on a heart transplant list and he felt giveing me the right treatments would endanger my life . But he kept my files for 4 years until I'd improved to the point I was removed from the transplant list in 2004 . Then he began me on monthly epidural shots in my low back .It took over a year for them to help but they gave me my life back . He's the most careing doctor I've been to in over 12 year.

Queston for you
What type of doc is Dr. Cyrus Vosough in Livingston? I can't seem to find a listing for him.
And just to make a correction-
Dr. Sanders Davis 95 Mt Kemble Morristown NJ
He's specializes in fibro; part of a group known as Associates in Rehabilitation Medicine. I'm not sure who he has that is going to take over his practice when he retires - I certainly hope he better start "grooming" a new doc darn soon!

I have been so Blessd with an exellent Doctor!
|
I have an Exellent Fibro Doctor, he does take some insurances so you will either have to call his office and check with them or call your insurance company and see what they cover. I currently have Aetna and he does not take that one BUT he will bill them and my insurance policy pays 100% of out of network doctors AFTER the first $500. so yes I know that that is a lot of out of pocket for us he is VERY worth it.
Fibromyalgia Treatment and Learning Center. Dr Michael J. Powell, D.O. 650 University Ave, Ste 200 Sacramento, CA 95825 (916) 922-8400
He specializes in FMS/CFS Diplomate, American Board of Internal Medicine Diplomate, Americian Board of Rheumatology Fellowship, Stanford Division of Immmunology and Rheumatology.
He BELIEVES you with your off the wall symptoms and cares very much. Is very patient with you.
I also know of a Family Practice doctor who really listens and understands FMS. Their group takes almost all insurances. they are:
Seirra Rose Family Physicians Medical Group. 8735 Sierra College Blvd, ste 100 Roseville, Ca 95661 (916) 786-5908
I highly reccomend both these groups of doctors if your in the Sacramento area or can get to it easily give them a call and check them out. They will work wonders for you.
I was so bad with uncontrolled FMS/CFS back in march that i was hospitalized twice and was on major pain meds but now I only take Ultram ER (1 daily) and advil, along with my vit supplements and a hot sauna daily. and have just been released to go back to work part time. (thats a scary one )
If you have any questions pleas feel free to contact me.
gentle hugs Fabricaholic

Great Doctor for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
|
Most of you making recommendations are listing doctors helping you with pain. It would probably be helpful to those looking for a doctor to specify whether this doctor is treating your overall Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or primarily Fibromyalgia (pain symptoms).
Since February I have been seeing a great doctor for CFS. He is Dr. Dale Guyer in Indianapolis, IN. Someone said he is arrogant and this is so far from the truth. He is very personable, spends a lot of time with you. It is true he doesn't take insurance and requires money up front, but they give you info so that you can bill your insurance. Dr. Guyer closely monitors my condition and is very sensitive to the fact that my body cannot handle a lot of hormonal changes and cannot handle high dosages of antiviral medication. The only problem I have been having with Dr. Guyer is getting my treatment record so that I can submit records to disability. Dr. Guyer is great clinically, but the office management at present is poor. Apparently, however, he has relied heavily on a nurse for records management and the entire time I have seen him he has had difficulty getting a nurse. He hires one and they last a week and they are gone.

Doctors
|
I've yet to meet or hear of any actual patients of Dr. Guyer who haven't been very satisfied with the clinical aspects of his care. I know more than six who are very satisfied.
His approach certainly is "unorthodox," but considering how little help the many "orthodox" doctors I've seen for my CFS have given me (and how much frustration other CFS sufferers on this board express about their "orthodox" doctors), that seems to me a good thing. (Obviously not every other doctor in Indianapolis approves of him, but I wouldn't drive the four hours from Chicago to Indianapolis to consult with any of them.)
As a patient, I've never found Dr. Guyer to be arrogant at all. He is by far the most open-minded doctor I've ever had in terms of listening to me talk about my illness and ideas, and in working with me to address things in ways in which I feel comfortable.
I don't personally know any fibro patients who see Dr. Guyer, and so I'm not sure what they think of him. He's not terribly drug-oriented, and so those patients who want painkillers only may be better off seeing someone else.
All in all, he is a wonderful doctor. I don't like to see people who have only met him (rather than who actually have consulted with him) pass judgment on him.
I have used in the past several other excellent doctors (including "conventional" ones) who don't "take insurance." These all are doctors who are successful enough that they do not need to allow themselves to be controlled by an HMO. I submit the bills to my insurance myself and obtain the same reimbursement that I would if the doctor's office submitted it. Personally, I would prefer to do it this way since I retain more control over the process.
It is true that his office does not accept Medicare, which obviously would be a problem for some people.
He also is fairly expensive, charging $350 for a follow-up. However, considering that this is for a full half-hour of his time and that he often does research on individual patients' problems outside of the scheduled appointment, I certainly do not think he is overcharging.
I do agree that problems can arise as a result of the administrative aspects of his office, but considering how poor most doctors are in terms of treating CFS that is the least of my concerns.
P.S. I don't think Dr. Guyer would be a good doctor to use to get disability. Again, that kind of administrative work is not his forte.

Reply to Kathy's Rant, and Subject
|
This is what my grandmother's cousin told his niece after she was diagnosed with fibroitis: 'God gave us this pain so that we could remember every day that we lived.' (It was before the term Fibromyalgia)
Being a bipolar patient for the last 10 years I've learned that not all doctors what what the hell they're talking about and I took my own recovery back! There is not a doctor out there what can CURE this ailment!
Knowing that it is a family "trait" I have the luxury of support and knowing what might work for me. I also have a great psychiatrist who helped me with bipolar and also with Fibromyalgia.

Two in Chicago Area
|
Have you looked at the list of doctors on the community tab at the top of this board? I found many good docs on the co-cure list.
Dr David Edelberg 2522 N Lincoln Ave. Chicago, IL http://www.wholehealthchicago.com/
As of Dec 2007, I now longer plan on seeing Dr Edelberg. Too many useless tests and not enough real help.
For B-HRT pellets in Chicago area:
Dr. William Epperly 245 S Gary Ave Bloomingdale, IL http://www.drepperly.com/staff.htm
Some FFC doctors are better than others. The Detroit FFC doctor is NOT one of my favorite doctors. She doesn't know beans about Lyme disease.
The best doc I've ever seen is:
Dr Charles L Crist 1824 S. Lone Pine Ave., Suite C Springfield, MO 65808 (417) 886-8995 fax: (417) 886-8389 www.drcharlescrist.com [This Message was Edited on 11/28/2007]

|
Dr. Yong D. Chang M.D. 501 Rita lane Suite 101 Aelington Texas,76014 phone # 817-4176141 fax # 817-417-6261
He's been my Dr. since long before I got this D.D. He's the one I got my neurologist from. And Dr. Conner treats the Texas Rangers Baseball team as well as me! Jenniffer is the office manager and she's great too. Keeps on top of all the paperwork ie. short term disability, then long, then SSID. She takes no prisioners with insurance companies!
Dr. Kevin E. Conner 501 Rita Suite 105 Arlington, Texas 76014 phone # 817-417-6141 fax # 817-417-6261
How great is that! Their in the same building! Makes appointment days so easy! And they BOTH take INSURANCE! And Dr. Chang wants to know what really helps you with pain management drugs so he always gives me samples to see how they affect me before he does the prescription thing. Can't say enough about these two Dr.'s. THEY ARE THE BEST IN TEXAS!!!!!!!! [This Message was Edited on 09/23/2007] [This Message was Edited on 09/23/2007]

ALABAMA DR?
|
I saw an earlier request for doctors in Alabama....did not see any replies....I have had both CFS/ME & FM since 1989. Been to many doctors. Recently tried the fibro & fatigue center in Marietta, GA. Very expensive. Had reaction to IV and another to Mitomax Supplement. Haven't tried the thyroid/hydrocortisone treatment, yet. Nor several other supplements. SO ANYONE OUT THERE FROM GOOD OLE ALABAMA THAT's got a GOOD DOCTOR for us? Can be in Alabama, Florida, Georgia or Mississippi also. Also if you would like to reply to me at lcollins64@hotmail.com and put in your title ImmuneSupport Message Board I would greatly appreciate it.

Good Rheumy, PCP, Chiro Austin TX area
|
Great post! My PCP is a wonderful lady who also happens to do well woman exams a couple times a month in addition to her general practice Dr. Jacqueline Livingston San Marcos TX (about 18 miles south of Austin) 512-396-3911
She was the one who first looked at all my symptoms and said you're going to a specialist and she recommended two rheumatologists. The other one I can not recall but my rheumatologist who is the most wonderful amazing doc I have ever had is: Dr. Paul K Pickrell Austin Arthritis Austin TX 512-732-2929
This doc actually listens to you. You are part of your own treatment planning. I couldn't have asked for a better physician. His P.A. is awesome too (he just got her because another rheumatologist in town retired and he got overloaded with tranfer patients). Oh and his nurse - I love this woman she is fantastic. He has no problem having you try samples of medications. I've had insurance deny an antidepressant and he got after them to pay for it. Recently another new med was denied and he was out of the office for the weekend; so his nurse just bagged up some samples of it to get me through the next month until my insurane changes.
Finally my Chiropractor who eliminated the tension headaches and migraines I had for years: Dr. Kevin Misenheimer Buda Family Chiropractic Buda TX 512-295-9345 He created a 6 month treatment plan to eliminate my headaches / migraines and with in 3 months they were gone and I have not had one in over a year! His office staff are really friendly and they help you find ways to make treatment affordable.

I have found a great Dr. His name is Dr Lewis, his practice is in Melbourne, and while he (or anyone) cant tell me what causes CFS/ME, he HAS found several things that most doctors have missed. My blood pressure drops sharply when i stand, my pulse elevates...orthostatic intolerence, my heart doesnt pump my blood properly. My melatonin and DHEA levels are way low, and heres something....all my white blood cells are invaded by bacteria, my body is constantly fighting an infection it cant get rid of. Anyway, his website is: www.cfsdiscovery.com.au Hes really understanding and supportive too!

2 DOCS - 1 SO. IND. & 1 IN LOUISVILLE KY
|
My family doctor is very kind, she listens and will let me try lots of different things, although she tends to go with the old faithfuls (physical therapy which did nada). Dr. Annette Beasley Main Street Medical Ministry 4090 Main Street SE New Middletown, IN 47160 812 968-3800 (This is inbetween Corydon and New Albany, IN off of Interstate 64).
My pain doc said he believed in fibro, but thought a lot of the pains and discomfort were due to causes that one could find if he looked hard enough. He found and cured the cause of the dreadful head/neck/shoulder/migraine pain I had for over eight years. Dr. Michael Cassaro 4010 DuPont Circle Suite 430 Louisville, KY 502 891-8940 He very seldom gives pain meds, but searches for physical, neurological and endocrinological causes of your pain.

wonderfull Doc DALLAS TEXAS
|
Dr. William Spurlock Dallas FFC. I feel so blessed to find him. He never treats you like your crazy. He is extremely knowlagable about any issue that you throw at him. He has no problem prescribing pain meds (though none of them are relieving the pain) I am a nurse and all I have to do is call and tell the nurse the problem and which med I think works best and he prescribes. He did tell me last time that I need to go to the spine specialist, because my scoliosis is so severe. There was a time when I was so frustrated and angry I unloaded both barrels on him. He quickly diffused my anger by being so kind and understanding. I bring my husband because he will include, and inform my husband of things I try to explain about my illness. Dr. Spurlock explains this disease to him and tells him of my limitations. (Why is it that your loved ones act like they don,t beleive you, but will listen to someone else?) He also is an expert enviromental physician. That is prob where i,m headed next due to multiple chemicle sensitivities, and immune disorders. Any way he is a wonderfull man and very informed. He does not have a problem with suggestions or ideas. He is the one person in the world that I can talk to, and he knows what I,m talking about. To me---it is the only verification I get that I,m not totally nuts, or just having a bad long-A... dream. He is wonderfull. Money up front. 199.30 min. 275.1hour. You can get much accomplished with him in 30 min. I cannot say that I have been happy with some of the staff there. Many clerical errors. I am still waiting to be reimbursed for a visit in August, because someone put the wrong diagnosis code on it. Stuuffff like that. Good luck and health to all. Sandra

GOOD DR. ~ PITTSBURGH, PA????
|
Does anyone know of a good FM doc in the Pittsburgh, PA area? Or south of there? I don't want to head to Erie. I've had FM for over 30 years and see a great internest who is very understanding and sympathetic but doesn't like to RX heavy pain meds. He refers out a lot and that's fine with me. I see a Physitrist who has me on meds and showed me exercises and I like him but not crazy about him. You know?? Then I see a Pain Specialist doc that I am in and out in about 3 minutes. I kind of have to grab her if there is something I need to say to her. I'd like to get 1 GOOD doctor that I could go to and be treated all over for including the pain therapy. This is a great idea of the doctor list!!! mumsey55

Haven't seen him in years as I moved out of state, but he was the best overall doc I saw. He listened and he was willing to try new things. He isn't too good on homeopathy or supplements, but if you're in pain or your life has stopped due to FMS or CFIDS, he is great for making sure you are treated and your pain is managed.

Please Connecticut..?
|
Since moving from IL, I can't find anyone in this state to treat my FMS or CFIDS. I saw a doc in NY for about 2 years, and though it was a hike my insurance covered him. There were some issues- he had a rotten staff- but when my insurance changed I went through hell with him just to get a prescription refilled. So I am desperate to find someone in Connecticut. I've seen this or that doctor, and every single one of them has let me down. The grief I have gotten in this state, which is supposed to be one of the most medically advanced due to research hospitals, is ridiculous. No pain meds whatsoever, not for my Interstitial Cystitis or anything. Sleep meds, maybe, if you go for a Sleep Study and allow yourself to be berated for being on sleeping pills for a good chunk of several years. I was literally thrown out of a doctor's office because I wouldn't see a psychiatrist to treat my "mental illness" of CFS- and I had bronchitis at the time but he wouldn't even examine me without telling me how "more and more patients are coming to me with chronic fatigue every day, and it is a mental illness, and I won't treat any of you if you don't see a psychiatrist." I've been put on antivirals and abruptly dropped off of them because no one here thinks they are of any help, so they half-heartedly give them to me and then take them away- leaving me desperately ill.
Recently I've been on several major weight gaining meds, and at the same time my new endocrinologist just dropped me radically on my thyroid medicine. I've gained over 40 pounds in 4 months and am having trouble breathing, but apparently I don't need the dose of thyroid meds I was on for years and doing well on. I just discovered I'm newly pregnant and I had a miscarriage early this year, so baving my thyroid meds messed with is a serious concern, not to mention I was of normal weight 4 months ago and am now a "high risk" pregnancy due to my "obesity." Suffice it to say that my new obgyn thinks I'm making up the suddenness of the weight gain, so I have to get records (and pay for them by the page!) to show that my weight has only just spiked. I get so weary of being treated like a liar all the time, I really, really do....
Please, if there are any doctors in this state who will treat you for everything, as I'm now up to 6 concurrent doctors because for some reason, this one can't treat you for something else, even related stuff. I would prefer to get scripts from only one or two doctors, as it is, I'm just about at one doc gives one script, etc. I feel that a good internist would be the best so I could have someone really coordinating things, instead of a PCP who just raises his hands and sends me to yet someone else. I also need to see someone at least a bit knowledgeable on the topic, as my immune system is just trashed, and I've been known to get repeated boughts of pneumonia, so I need someone to prescribe the stronger antibiotics. I also develop thrush and skin yeast infections, and need one doctor who can coordinate the two interlocking illnesses so I get a strong enough antibiotic, but any yeast issues are promptly cleared up. And of course, a vaginal yeast med doesn't really help with oral yeast, but somehow I can't get that across to too many doctors here. Not to mention how many times since I've moved here that I'm asked if I have HIV due to the chronic infections that last forever if not treated aggressively. As I was pregnant late last year/early this year already, I was tested that recently, so I know that's not it. But try to explain the immune system dysfunction and they look at me like I'm just there to make stuff up for some silly reason...
I am right past my 23rd anniversary of this disease, and it really irks me that I'm being treated now like I was in the first 5 years, when at least doctors had the excuse of not knowing anything about this disease. But come on, right? I've had Interstitial Cystitis for 24 years, and I now see a specialist but sadly, it has progressed during the years I was told "you're just nervous" and "nothing wrong with you at all." So now my bladder is scarred smaller and we've tried literally everything. They want to implant a device into my body, in my spine,to deal with this now, and I have refused in part because I get infections so easy it's scary, and here I am, 40 and on a second pregnancy, terrified I'll miscarry again, yet going around with all this anger towards doctors and none seem to understand the torture I live with. If they could tell me the implant wouldn't affect my ability to have a baby and they would do as much prophylactic treatment for infection as possible, I might just do that. Maybe after I have a pregnancy that goes to term.
You can all see how utterly frustrated and angry I am. So I'll just put this alone down here in case people don't feel like reading my long rant:
Please, if you know a good doctor for FMS/CFIDs in Connecticut and it isn't a homeopath (I spent my thousands on that years ago- the only value was with the anti yeast treatments), please reply!!!
Thank you and God bless....

Hi there! I live in Healdsburg, CA! I'm a Kaiser patient also...How long have you been seeing Dr. Steve Olson? Isn't he a Family Dr? Is he managing your Fibro or CFS?
I recently got started with the Pain Clinic at Kaiser (Santa Rosa). I had high hopes for going there. I am going to do their Intensive Pain Program in January & February. The weird thing about it is that they want me OFF my meds!
I only take Tramadol & a muscle relaxer for pain...The Pain Dr. wants me off both! I'm a bit bummed. But if I want to do the Pain program, I have to do it. I am tapering off the Ultram/ Tramadol. This isn't a good time for a taper, but I'll give it a try!
Anyway, I'm interested in how Dr.Olson treats your DD. Could you share? Thanks!
Hugs, Annie [This Message was Edited on 12/19/2007]

Think I found one!
|
After YEARS of looking for a doc, I think I've found one with whom I can work and who will listen. Her name is Dr. Diane Ferguson and she is in Ridgeland, MS. She is in family practice and I really like her. She didn't flinch when I told her that Lorcet was the only thing that would even touch my pain and asked what dose I needed. I don't take it often, but when I have to do it, it helps.
Hope everyone here has a blessed Christmas and happy New Year!

"GOOD" DR
|
I'd like to add:
Dr. Nabil Barsoum MD, PA 100 S Military Trail Street 10 Deerfield Beach FL 33442 (954) 426-9600
It wasn't the dr I saw the other day but the dr's assistant. Being that I was there more for an Adderall rx & not further treatment, I was treated with respect.
I got this referral from the dr's assistant in my primary's office. She spoke highly of him & that several of her patients were helped.
I'd suggest giving him a try. I have a follow-up appt in 2 weeks. I'll follow up w/any new info after then.

This is a great idea, but if all of you would kindly go to www.ratemds.com and no I do not have an affiliation of any kind with the site. This thread tends to get lost. Dr. Susan Levine

I had a first-time appointment with Dr. Susan Levine in NYC today.
I was very impressed. She did a real aggressive blood workup for me and outlined some potential treatment strategies that we may want to pursue depending on what comes back.
It's refreshing to see someone in traditional allopathic medicine who orders real tests as opposed to someoone who is pushing nutritional supplements with a huge markup.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

Doctors in NC?

Hi, I am new to the board and am trying to find a good doctor in the Piedmont area of NC - near Charlotte, Winston Salem,or up in Asheville.
I have been to rheumatologists who just give me a 10 minute lecture and other doctors who just shrug when asked what can be done for Fibro. and CFS. Spent thousands of dollars that my family couldn't afford to lose. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Two good docs Dallas area FFC
|
As Grace4U bragged about her Dallas FFC doc, I gotta brag about his associate, Dr. James Stevens, (D.O.) He's humble, compassionate and super knowledgable of microbiology, physiology and nutrition. Will consider Lyme and treat accordingly; respectful of your level of pain (can prescribe up to Vicodin) or will refer you to pain mgt if necessary, and aggressive with antivirals and antibiotics when he gets your infectious panel results in.
Lab testing at FFC is as thorough as it gets! Most other doctors wouldn't even know where to start or stop.
However, feel free to politely refuse his supplements if you want to buy yours elsewhere, but buy the ones he recommends from somewhere.
His number is 972-980-2300; fax 972-980-3730 fibroandfatigue.com
Anyone wanting to come to Dallas can stay with me but I need you ASAP to help with rent!

Good alternative practitioner Denton, Texas (Dls area)
|
Second hand referral Denton, Texas 12/21/07 11:21 AM
I'm planning on seeing an alternative practitioner, Dr. Croley, who helped pioneer this energy method using state of the art bioresonance technique. You don't need to have a specific diagnosis to get in to see him; he will help you nail it down and does his own Lyme disease and co-infections tests, small intestine enzymes test, detox profile test, immune, cardio, hormone, and bone enzyymes profile tests among other things.
He was referred to me from a man with advanced Lyme disease who made tremendous progress very quickly and is back to work. He doesn't take insurance but who cares - his fees are very modest.
His resume is stunning including a post-grad stint with NASA and teaching of anatomy & physiology to med/dental students. The name of his center is the Gutenlase (Good Laser) Energy Center.
I will try to get my far *#! to see him after Christmas or whenever I can get in.
His wife Annette will be glad to send you an info packet. Phone # is 940-384-0074; fax 940-384-0067.

OHIO Crucial.........

Someone out there has to know of a wonderful doctor in the Lorain County area..
At this point, this is the last thing I am hanging onto. I *have* to find a dr. I cannot take this being untreated anymore. I can not.
I have come to realize that I can not do this without a good doc, and now I see my stubborness disipating. I feel my body slipping and my senses getting more sensitive, hearing & cold seem to do it. Its right down to the bone. I cannot take this Fibro crapola another day.
I'm sick of *tryin* to explain to people, tired of hearing "You look OK" or "Your too young" WELL NO CRAP!!! Its sickning to me how people associate being sick with "looking the part", cause im not deformed or dragging my leg behind, they think we arent sick cause we arent.
And the fogging, UGH!!!!! Im SICK of feeling like a moron cause I cant think!! Simple things, can, bottle, car, desk, its always "That thing, that thing right there" or "um, um, um, Im sorry I cant think right now" I want to SCREEEEEAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM and cry no doubt....I need to yell.........
UGH I am sorry all, needed to vent a bit, been in a flare up for almost bout 3/4 months now, steady. Last few weeks have been VERY intense. This is such a mental disease, more so than the pain I believe.
anyhow, someone please, in the Ohio area, i NEED a GOOOOOOOOD doc.

DOCTOR IN LEHIGH VALLEY PA

PLEASE - Does anybody know of a good doctor in the Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton area in PA. I am currently using my PCP, but it would be so helpful to have a doctor who does treat FM.
I found a doctor down in Plymouth Meeting, but that's a bit of a trek and I don't know anything about him except that he was shown on another website that I found. If a Lehigh Valley doctor is available, it would be just great.
Many thanks.

Drs couldn't help me
|
(well except Dr Joe Brewer,Plaza Medical Ctr, Kansas City, Mo. Put me on transfer factor)
But scientists did. Check out Rich Van Konynenburg and Dr Amy Yasko's work.
I've been on Rich's methylation protocol & Amy Yasko's protocol since Feb & it has made a phenomenal difference.
B12 & folic acid (well active forms of folate NOT folic acid per se) are essential parts of the protocol.. & I just noticed one of Montoya's patients reported on here that her Stanford docs put her on B12 & folic acid.
In fairness, I should say that Rich's work is built on a lot of research including Paul Cheney's observations that people with CFS are deficient in glutathione.

Stellar CFIDS/Fibro Dr. near Salt Lake City, UT
|
It took me almost 2 years to find an answer and a good doctor.
Dr. John William Whitaker Physicians Center for Treatment of Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia 1401 N. Highway 89 Farmington, UT 84025 Call for best directions. Phone: 801-451-5900 Monday-Thursday 8:00am-6:00pm
This office does not accept insurance, but insurance companies would never allow the doctor to spend an hour or two with a patient, either. Tailoring an improvement program to your personal needs takes time. I figure I have actually saved money, too.
I have been seeing Dr. Whitaker for a year; treatment has allowed me to maintain my job (I work more than full time and had been at the point of meltdown), quit taking Ultram (24-hr time-release Tramadol painkiller), reduce use of muscle relaxants, and cut my chiro and massage treatments by 50%. Best of all, I found hope in this caring office.
The focus of treatment is on obtaining and maintaining refreshing sleep, optimizing hormones, eliminating infections, and increasing nutrition and energy.
I have also found an excellent chiropractor/massage therapist team in the Logan, UT, office of Dr. Evan LeFevre, 435-752-4747. Even his receptionist, Jamie, is a peach.
Blessings and all good things,

I heard my naturopath/accupuncturist moved to Singapore from Oregon. In retrospect he did an amazing amount of the right things when I first got sick. Horrific headaches caused me to visit MD's to get an MRI which of course caused me to use the money I paid for the naturopath to pay for health insurance. Anyway, he's very good. His name is Robert Clark, he's a chinese medicine specialist and naturopath. There are some lucky people in Singapore.

I recommend Dr. Larry Elzinga of the FFC in Portland. He's a former research doc at OSHU and has made a huge difference in my health issues to the better. And no, you don't have to take everything they recommend, but you do need to maintain responsibility for figuring out what's going on with your body.

Alexandria Virginia Good Docs
|
I currently have a good Primary Doctor and I would recommend him and anyone in his Group.
Dr. Steve Yang (Internal Medicine) Beulah Street Alexandria, VA (703) 922-6161
He's compassionate and listens. The other two Doctors are Dr. Lukowsky and Dr Field. I've been to both of them for other problems and feel they would equally treat me well.
Will work with you for the management of the pain and illness, but he's very thorough and will make sure it's Fibo and not something else.
Also has a Quest lab right in the office, so if you need blood drawn, you don't have to go anywhere else. Let's me get B-12 shots because I wanted too. He didn't deny me this request (many would).
Another good Doctor in Arlington VA Alan Terlinsky. Very good. He takes insurance for some things but not for others. He's a smart cookie and will have you tested for a lot of stuff.

Any other Dallas area doctors?
|
I currently see Dr. Harney in Richardson but have run out of patience with him, he just wants to prescribe meds and pat my head as he walks me to the door. Very condescending IMO. And his staff is the worst. They act like they're doing you a huge favor by even talking to you. I'm fed up with that organization.
I investigated the FFC but wasn't thrilled. I want to find a doctor that will listen and take everything that's going on in my body into account, including the breast cancer I was diagnosed with last year.
But the bottom line is that I'm in real pain and want some help!
Anybody????

Excellent doc Southern California
|
Keeping up this list is a great idea and whoever recommended ratemds.com (I'm sorry I read so many I can't find the poster now), I'm going to look there when I've posted this.
Dr. Jeffrey Galpin Tarzana, Ca (San Fernando Valley)
Dr. Galpin is an infectious disease specialist and internist. He got his start about 25 years ago with HIV, and still has patients (back in the day when they died quickly from AIDS). He turned his interest to CFS and is considered preimminent on the West coast; I was surprised no one had posted him yet. He is extremely thorough, willing to put a "team" of doctors together tailored to each patient (neuro, ent, gastro, pain mgmt, etc) and his practice is about 1/3-1/2 CFS patients. I know he works closely with Nancy Klimas in Florida on current research. Whenever I travel to the Carribean or east coast, he makes sure that I have her number in case I run into a problem.
I think one of the things that makes Dr. Galpin so good is his own personal history. He has post polio syndrome, uses a wheelchair and has his office adapted to his needs. He really understands pain, frustration and "bad days", probably because he has them too. My primary and my internist both referred me to him during my diagnositic stage. Over the last four years, he has pulled more needles out of my haystack than I can recall. Great doc who "thinks out of the box".

Good doctor...Dallas
|
I found an awesome doctor for my fibromyalgia. I have been seeing him for about a year and I have never felt better. He is a neurologist and has a PhD in psychology, so he treats not only the condition, but the mental effects of it as well. He specializes in pain management and uses all sorts of cutting edge treatments. He also does medical research and has written many papers on the subject of migraines and pain management.
Dr. John Krusz 5446 Glen Lakes Drive Dallas TX
He does not accept insurance, but he spends about and hour (or however much time it takes) with me without rushing me. My first appointment with him took 2.5 hours. I never had a doctor really LISTEN to me before. He changed all my meds from my previous doctor and I feel so great. The first visit was $400 and followups are $120 - not by the hour.

28years, you said you were in Albany and didn't want to travel to Dr. Bell in Western NY.
If you can travel, there's Dr. Derek Enlander and Dr. Susan Levine in NYC which would probably be much closer for you.
Best wishes,

Please Post Them on ratemds.com
|
There is a site called ratemds.com. In no way am I affiliated with them. It is a lot more user friendly and things do not get lost in the threads on this board.
Kindly do us all a favor, this is about the 100th time I am having to say this put your comments there. Others have mentioned the site as well.
Keep everything under one data base, or no one benefits. It is not that difficult. Thank you very much.

ANNAPOLIS MD GOOD DOC
|
Daniel Hexter,M.D. Neurology
Just had first appt. and love him already. up to date, holistic stuff too, as well as state of art stuff. Caring, a real person. Really seems dedicated to finding an answer for everything. I wrote a post about my vistit with him.
410-266-9694 122 Defense Hyway Annapolis,MD.
Dr. James Bellor, Rheumatology 410-964-6139 Colombia and Annapolis MD.
He treats my fibro pain and sleep issues since 2003, will really work to help find a combo that works for you. Way back when most docs didn't know a thing he was rxing tramadol and sleeping aids. He even called me at 9 at night once to call something in for me. Not too proactive on testing or stuff....but a real sweetheart for treatment. I had to get my back xrayed thru a second opinion doc, but came back to him. if you aren't looking for more answers and just want relief, he is the best. [This Message was Edited on 02/02/2008]

List of Doctors Practicing Functional Medicine by Location
|
"Functional medicine is dedicated to improving the management of complex, chronic disease by intervening at multiple levels to address these core clinical imbalances and to restore each patient’s functionality and health."
Considering so many people with the type of illnesses coverd by this board are having a hard time finding doctors, I thought I'd post this helpful site.
http://www.functionalmedicine.org/
This site not only explains functional medicine, but allows one to search for a doctor by location. Canadian doctors are listed, as well.
Many people on this board report benefitting from the functional medicine approach. Considering how many systems are affected by our illnesses, this makes sense.
So, perhaps this is an untapped resource.

I was just getting ready to send you an address where I go and I looked and you already go there! I also go to Meridian Health Group! I have been going there about 5 yrs. I used to see Dr. Riley but he left so I see Dr. Arbuck now and I also seeNicole most times. I have been very happy over the years with them. I went to rehab about 2 yrs ago (sent by them) my idea! I am so happy I did this. They are so good to find what ails you and then help you. Please let me know if I can be of any help.

Good Dr. Bellevue, Washington
|
She is a great Dr. She knows about FM & CFS. I've seen her for about 3 years now. She's very caring and has taken great care of me. She has just started her own practice, so she's rather expensive, but to me she's worth it. She does not take insurance or medicare. The reason for this is she doesn't want to be dictated to by the insurance companies to see a patient for 15 minutes! It takes longer than that for most of her patients!

Looking for good doc in WV
|
Like some others have said on here I thought I had a good doc until meds he prescribed for me didn't work. He moved his office 1 hr. 45 min. away which I didn't mind to go. The last visit when he prescribed the meds he had to go to a meeting and didn't have time to spend w/me. It blew my mind that I drove all the way there and then he says he didn't know he had to go to the meeting. He had always spend more than usual time w/me when his office was close. I was floored, but he wrote me the prescriptions (one being a new one and forgot to write 3 others) and had to leave. I got the new one filled Opana ER co-pay of $50 and he also gave me the fast acting Opana, but I didn't get it filled.
Anyway, I tried taking it and kept getting sick. I called after about a week and told him it made me sick. He said that was the strongest he could give me so he said he would send me to a good pain doctor. It ended up being a chiropractor(I know there are good ones out there, but I tried apx. 10 and have had no luck whatsoever). Then I called him back and ask him if he could change me to another pain med because I didn't want to go to a chiropractor. Now he's making me come in for an office visit. It's been less than 3 weeks since I saw him. He used to be so compamsionate. I just don't know what happened. I feel like he thinks I just want drugs!! I just want help! Now my husband has to take off work to take me since I can't drive that far by myself.
So if anyone knows any good docs in WV, please let me know. In the mean time, I did get another doc who is a NP friend of ours to refer me to a pain clinic. They were rude and said they didn't deal w/fibro patients, but did say they would give me a pain block anyway--it's not scheduled for another month. I would just like to find the right combination of meds to control my pain.
Thanks to you Doxy and all who care!

Hi! This is my first post. Our 19 y.o. son has had CFIDS for 6 years (rapid onset with flulike symptoms, etc), and we have gone down all the usual deadends. This past year, we switched from his previous physician to another due to unavoidable insurance change. The previous very understanding family practitioner had treated CFIDS pts with TLC and a watchful eye, but not with antivirals, etc.( and more research is out in the interim);current internal med. physician has not treated CFIDS before, and prefers we see a specialist for this issue. I have a lot to learn about the labwork--son has had only a smattering of the now often-listed tests done in the past, but testing was likely not specific enough, so could use suggestions there as well. He is not currently in pain, but with sleep disorder, cog. fog, no energy, cannot attend school. Likely needs new labwork focusing on HHV, etc We live in the Grand Rapids MI area, and are in the process of considering a specialist, or switch to previous physician who might be agreeable to some of the listed labwork and treatment. Plan to call Dr. Lerner (Detroit area) but I strongly suspect he is not covered by our insurance, which has limited providers in this area. We are also very willing to drive to Chicago for treatment if necessary. Thanks for the ideas for physicians in the Chicago/Detroit/IN areas. Any suggestions for physicians in Western MI? Immunologists? Our insurance does not list CFIDS as a specialty, of course! This is no way to spend your teen years (or any years, for that matter!). Thank you very much for your help! Will continue to look thru for more ideas.
