Big Pharma so what? If we have a virus or whatever you think it is suddenly going to go away? Yeh I would jump on big pharma if it would reduce symptoms greatly or get rid of this crap. No fool granted there is a lot of skeptical people and it pays to be that way. Not just believe everything at face value. We also need hope I believe I read where that was posted here. If that hope is with a drug so be it. Do you have any other cures? Or someone else working for us instead of against us. Why are you so negative are you trying to keep us balanced? So the hype of all this doesnt carry us with it? No one on this board actually would want a retrovirus, but they certainly admire people that are trying to find out what is going on with or bodies. Take Care hensue

I read this in the WPI several months ago, and I was impressed that they had found someone with such and ideal background.

You wonder what the "Big Pharma people" think about Dr. Mikovits employment history? I thought YOU were a big pharma person. Don't you mean to ask anti-big pharma people? Let's see, Dr. Mikovits worked for the National Cancer Institute--obviously not a pharma company at all, but part of the government. Biosource International? They primarily develop diagnostics, not drugs. Epigenx Biosciences? Nobody has even heard of this company. Do they even still exist? Have they ever had an approved drug? They do not seem to have a website anymore. The most recent information I could find said they had less than 50 employees and that they were a START UP COMPANY.
Dr. Mikovits worked for a startup biotech with less than 50 employees which seems to no longer exist and THAT makes her tied to BIG PHARMA?
Do you have any idea how ridiculous you sound alleging that Mikovits is tied to big pharma, or did all those braindrugs Dr. Goldstein have you on kill all the useful brain cells you had left?

Offensive
|
I haven't read this whole thread but i can say I find this headline very offensive to say about someone who has sacrified so much to bring knowledge to this field. How foolish! Please stop attacking those who have contributed so much. It's not constructive. On the contrary.

If XMRV is the one, we're going to need Big Pharma. Judy Mikovits is beyond reproach. Huh? Please go back to discussing the Patient X CFS subset.

conspiracy logic

I suggest you read "Evidence of Harm" as a starter because you don't seem to understand that there is actual scientific evidence of a major mistake when it comes to a vaccine accident and plenty of information out there on many, many fronts that show that when people with power make mistakes they don't hesitate to cover them up. Even people without power try to cover up their mistakes. I don't have to believe that a corporate/gov consortium would never try to cover their unintended mistakes to believe that someone with corporate/scientific experience could also be extremely helpful and productive. The two are not mutually exclusive. This is not a black and white world, lots of gray area, and if we're really lucky, a consortium of experts will come to our rescue, they could even be corporations whose business model 98% of the time works against us. Stranger things have happened.

I have no problem with scientists who work with Big Pharmas, the problem I have with Big Pharmas is on the marketing and administrative side. But government is partly to blame for that systemic problem. I have said in previous years that the best thing that could happen to us is some drug company finds a medication that helps us (particularly CFS- not just "symptoms"). Many of us are misdiagnosed or just not diagnosed. Doctors on main street don't know what to do with us. Their resistance to us will be greatly reduced if they could give us a pill. I am not saying a pill will be our cure. But a pill for CFS, any pill for CFS, will go a long way from a public relations standpoint. We will have commercials on T.V. that declares we are truly ill. I don't think we should lighten up. Nofool knows he's just trying to provoke us and hide behind fake "sarcasam." You're just enabling the rascal. He does nothing but tick people off. Why PH continues to allow him to drive people away from their board, I don't understand. He's bad for business. I know, I seldom come here because of him. Life is so much better on Cort's board. They have no trouble makers over there. I'm not going to look at this thread again so don't respond. I have better things to do than this nonsense. {You may have noticed that retrovirus was discovered and there was some sort of meeting recently.} {Sarcasm}

Big Pharma
|
If XMRV is related to CFS after all the research is completed then Big Pharma will need to be involved and will hopefully pour money into a retroviral drug that specifically treats this particular virus. It's something to ponder. If you are of the mind that you don't like Big Pharma and think they are a bunch of crooks, what do you do if they create something that reduces or eliminates symptoms of CFS-- do you still bash Big Pharma when they start to put money into a med that might help us all. We get to bash them, if it is proven that the virus is involved and they do nothing. We will see. So, I am not sure what all the uproar is about here. It is food for thought. I personally don't care what Mikovits may or may not be involved with -- she has excellent credentials and is doing groundbreaking work. Kudo's to her. Kina.

it is no longer possible for some to figure out the intent behind nf's posts for the very same reason that people stopped listening to the boy who cried wolf (by the time he was actually justified in his warning, he had already blown it so badly, no one listened) also I agree with fredt that it is possible to point out some problems with big pharm w/o saying that everyone associated with them is automatically bad and, sorry gap, but the title of your post IS offensive, even though I don't think that you intended it to be - this topic has been debated before on here and even if you are not a believer, it is still using the Lord's name in vain (if you want to get technical about it, look at the definition- I posted it the last time this came up)

Jesus is just all right with me. God only knows what I'd be without you. Say a prayer but let the good times roll In case God doesn't show... ... I couldn't resist either. I just love how issues get convoluted when people's feelings get hurt. Remember that not everyone shares the same beliefs, so "respect" is not the issue. This is a [relatively] public forum, so feelings and respect is what it is : )

re respect and religion
|
This is not about hurt feelings. It IS about respect.....I do have very strong beliefs about God, and I do find it offensive when someone uses his name improperly. (to Christians using His name in vain is like using it to swear with and that is offensive).... I also respect other people's beliefs. Even if I don't agree with them, I would find it offensive, as well, if someone were to throw out a similar comment based on another religion, or put someone down based on that religion, etc.....heck, leaving religion out of the picture, if someone used another person's name as a form of swearing, wouldn't most people have a problem with that? Like I said, it is about respect.

[This Message was Edited on 11/03/2009]
Oh, and like I said in a previous post, I do not think it was intentional. People tend to say things like that w/o really thinking about it or understanding why it is offensive. I am simply explaining why it is a problem.
