I believe he should have mentioned vitamin D because this vitamin also increases glutathione production in the nervous system.
Vitamin D is very easily overlooked. Many people are deficient but PWME are particularly deficient because of their illness. It takes a long time for vitamin D to improve immune and endocrine function so it is easy for people to say "Oh it did nothing for me!" but its action to modulate the immune system, improve cognition, reduce symptoms of oxidative stress and increase natural antibiotics such as cathelecidin will occur. (the cathelicidin aka antimicrobial peptide (CAMP) gene is a direct target of the vitamin D receptor.)
5000IU vitamin D daily is safe and inexpensive and should be taken with vitamin K, zinc and magnesium.
Are you a medical person? I'm on massive doses of Vit. D =6,000 IU daily. I just had a Parathyroid Adenoma removed and went back on Calcium. I also live in a below ground basement and get very little outdoor time. I'm also on Mag.400 mg x2 and Zinc 15 mg x2, but not K. What doses do you recommend? And why Vit. K? Why do you think Dr. Hyman did not talk about Vit D? Thank you, catheyderosa
