Studies of FM genetics are still primitive compared with what they will be, but they suggest that multiple genes may be involved in susceptibility to fibromyalgia or associated conditions such as widespread musculoskeletal pain (what’s called ‘polygeneic’ inheritance patterns). These genes may vary in importance, or play minor roles that in combination raise the odds of onset given different triggering factors.
