Barbara Keddy offers some tips on living with fibromyalgia:

Do
  • Do practice meditation - breathe

  • Do practice being mindful in all you do

  • Do exercise, even if just walking

  • Do take up a hobby that is new to you, creative and repetitious

  • Do have massage or massage yourself lightly with a feather

  • Do practice self-compassion

  • Do avoid too much stimulation

  • Do eat plenty of fruits and vegetables

  • Do avoid caffeine and alcohol

  • Do go to a therapist for talk therapy (if you can afford it)

Don’t
  • Don’t allow anxiety to escalate into panic

  • Don’t become overly stressed

  • Don’t over-medicate

  • Don’t remain a couch potato

  • Don’t spend time with people who are negative

  • Don’t over-extend yourself or be afraid to say “no”

  • Don’t partake in unproven ‘alternate’ therapies or take weird concoctions

  • Don’t over-indulge on holiday excitement

  • Don’t expect a quick ‘cure’

  • Don’t forget to smile
