DHEA
a hormone made by the adrenal glands used by the body to make male (androgen) and female (estrogen) hormones; possible positive effects on mood and energy on older individuals (40+) whose production of DHEA has declined. See: DHEA 10mg; DHEA 25mg; DHEA 50mg

Diabetes
a disease caused by an insulin deficiency and characterized by excess sugar in the blood and urine.

Dibencozide
the biologically active coenzyme of vitamin 12, necessary in the metabolism of fat, proteins, and carbohydrates.

Dilate
to make or become wider or larger.

Dimethyl Glycine (DMG)
a substance originally isolated from apricot kernels. Said to increase oxygen uptake and decrease recovery time between workouts.

Di-peptide
two amino acids linked together.

Diuretic
any agent or compound that increases the flow of urine from the body. They can range from herbal teas to powerful drugs that flush out electrolytes and water. They are classed based on the location and mechanism of action in the kidneys.

DMAE (Dimethyl-amino-ethanol)
supplement reported to minimize buildup of lipofuscin (age spots) in the brain. Plays a participatory role in acetylcholine synthesis. DMAE has been shown to stimulate vivid, lucid dreams, suggesting possible sleep pattern enhancement. See: DMAE

DNA
deoxyribonucleic acid - the basic chromosomal material, containing and transmitting the heredity patterns.

Dong quai
a Chinese herb derived from the root of Angelica sinensis or Angelica plymorpha maxim. A staple of eastern medicinal practice for thousands of years, dong quai has been used in the treatment of female disorders such as menstrual cramps, premenstrual syndrome, and to relieve symptoms associated with menopause.

Dopamine
an important brain neurotransmitter (chemical which enables nerve cells to communicate with each other) which plays a role in body movement, motivation, primitive drives and emotions including sexual behavior and immune system function.
