Manganese
Mineral used for carbohydrate metabolism, enzyme activation, reproduction and sex hormone production.

Magnesium
Mineral used for muscle relaxation, acid and alkaline balance, enzyme activation, blood sugar, calcium and vitamin C metabolism. See: Magnesium Plus; Mag/Potassium Aspartate

Malabsorption
A defect in the absorption of nutrients from the intestinal tract into the blood stream.

Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor (MAOI)
These drugs increase the amounts of mood-enhancing neurotransmitters in the brain by blocking the action of the enzyme monoamine oxidase, which acts like a vacuum cleaner sucking up neurotransmitters after being released by brain cell receptor sites. Examples include Marplan, Nardil, and Parnate.

Melatonin
Hormone produced by the pineal gland that regulates circadian rhythms; helps induce sleep and acts as an antioxidant. See: Melatonin 3mg; Sublingual Melatonin; Time Released Melatonin

Menopause
The permanent cessation of menstruation, caused by a sharp decrease in the production of the sex hormones estrogen and progesterone.

Metabolism
The chemical and physical processes continuously going on in living organisms and cells, including the changing of food into living tissue and the changing of living tissue into waste products and energy.

Metabolite
A substance produced as a result of a metabolic process.

Microgram
A measurement of weight equivalent to 1/1,000 of a milligram.

Microorganisms
A microscopic organism especially a bacterium, protozoan.

Milk Thistle
Milk Thistle is a tall herb with prickly leaves and a milky sap that is native to the Mediterranean region of Europe. Milk thistle is among the most ancient of all known herbal medicines, having been used as a folk remedy for centuries for liver complaints. Milligram
A measurement of weight equivalent to 1/1,000 of a gram.

Mineral
Inorganic substances required by the body in small quantities.

Mineral (Chelated)
A chelated mineral is generally attached to a protein transporter molecule with the intent of improved transport across the intestinal wall to the blood stream.

Monounsaturated Fats
An essential fatty acid (EFA) that seems to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. This is considered a type of "good" fat. Olive oil, and canola oil are two examples of monounsaturated fats. You need approximately 2% of your daily calories as EFA's.

Myoglobin
A red iron-containing protein pigment in muscles that is similar to hemoglobin but differs in the globin portion of its molecule.
