T-cell
A type of lymphocyte that is a crucial part of the immune system.

Taurine
An essential amino acid. See: L-Taurine

Testosterone
Hormone produced by both men and women which controls masculinization in the body and the key hormone in muscle building.

Thermogenesis
Meaning heat-producing. To make more heat, your body has to burn more calories. Thermogenesis occurs with exercise, food consumption, and with the use of selected herbs.

Thiamin (Vitamin B-1)
A vitamin which maintains energy levels, supports brain function (memory). Aids in digestion, and is necessary for metabolism of sugar and starch to provide energy. Maintains a healthy nervous system. Alcohol can cause deficiencies of this vitamin and all the B-complex vitamins.

Thyroid Gland
A large ductless gland near the trachea, secreting a hormone which regulates growth.

Toxicity
The quality of being poisonous. Toxicity reactions in the body impair bodily functions and damage cells.

Trace element
A mineral required by the body in extremely small quantities.

Triglyceride
A compound consisting of three fatty acids plus glycerol. Triglycerides are the form in which fat is stored in the body, and are the primary type of lipid in the diet.

Turmeric
Turmeric contains curcumin and an essential oil (turmerone, zingiberins). Curcumin increases the secretion of bile by stimulating the bile duct. Curcumin also protects the liver by detoxification, stimulating the gall bladder and scavenging free radicals. In conjunction with the adrenal glands, it inhibits both platelet aggregation and the enzymes which induce inflammatory prostaglandin. Curcumin may also help break down fats and reduce cholesterol.

Tyrosine
A conditionally essential amino acid, tyrosine can elevate mood and is a precursor of the brain neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine and epinephrine.
