Sorry this is late. If you had a hysterectomy with only one ovary removed (Oophorectomy), then you will not need hormones or estrogen. I had this surgery done. The remaining ovary functions and provides what you need into menopause.
When you do go into menopause, it does not mean that women must take hormones. Taking hormones or estrogen is discussed with your doctor and based on the symptoms your body has, the needs of your body at that time and definitely includes a review of your family's direct history of breast cancer. Don't start doing things on your own. A danger that is not considered with the estrogen creams is that people don't put the creams away where the kids can't reach them, or the people don't wash their hands after using them then hug their kids--Oprah did a show on kids going into puberty at a young age because of careless use of estrogen creams around children. But again, talk to your doctor before using anything.
20 years post surgery my doctor did a test and stated I was post menopause. I do not have osteoporosis, the hormones are fine, and I had a bit of night sweating which I resolved by switching to Soy milk in my cereal instead of regular milk. So I went through menopause without knowing it. I am not on any type of hormones or estrogen therapy now because of a strong family history of breast cancer and the doctor also sees that my body doesn't need it.
I do have lupus and other ailments, but you still need OB/GYN checkups. A continuing itchy nipple is a good reason for an OB/GYN checkup. So get it for that and continue to get yearly "well woman" checkups so that your breasts are checked, you get an internal check and your OB/GYN is satisified you are doing well. Good luck and hugs
