Help wanted - I think Im peri-menopausal
Hi all. Im not new here, as Im a regular to the Fibro board. My symptoms overlap with my fibro symptoms. I wanted some advice please, if possible. Im 43 on Saturday and I think Im peri menopausal. I had a blood test last year and doctor said I wasnt menopausal but could be having peri menopausal symptoms. But my periods are wonky, last one was barely there. I have nausea every day, Im having an attack now, accompanied by a flush, with sweating on my face, Im shaking, and feel a bit faint, and a headache. Forgot to add that my blood tests came back that I could have mild Pcos, but could these be symptoms of this? I dont know what to do or think. If I knew I was def going through this it would help me and I could try and deal with it. Is there a test for this, or does the doctor just go on symptoms? Any help appreciated.x

Hi Severina
At 43 you could very well be in peri-menopause. I am not sure what you are talking about when it comes to your blood test. I don't know what Pcos is. My Dr. told me that the best way to test hormones is thru the saliva testing. I went thru peri-menopause for ten years. My periods too were wacky and different. At the beginning I had hot flashes really bad and then they went away for years until now when I am finally going thru menopause. I don't know about your nausea symptom though. Could you be pregnant? Check thyroid levels...
Sometimes thyroid levels are off and can cause the exact same problem. Have the Free T4, the Free T3, T3, and TSH done to see where you are at. I have been there and have Grave's Disease, the hyperthyroidism phase of the thyroid disease. Sometimes eating the wrong foods or taking the wrong vitamins and supplements can throw things off. I tried using a bit of Progesterone cream and felt I became more hypER so I quit. Now I think I'm doing just a tad bit better than before. Perhaps not everyone needs to use something to recover from such symptoms as the Periomenopause. Take care... :-)

Perimenopause/Menopause
Hi there, Perimenopause is merely the 10 or so years leading up to menopause. Menopause is defined as the last period that a woman has, and the average age of menopause is 51 years old. Based on your stated age, you probably ARE perimenopausal, but this isn't a disease state and it doesn't account for the symptoms you've described. I would suggest getting tested for hyperthyroidism and adrenal fatigue. Also check your blood pressure to make sure you're not having a bp spike. You will need to make sure you're not suffering from any cardiovascular issues here. Beyond this, I would then check out the symptoms for panic attacks. Some of these are consistent with panic disorder, but medical issues need to be ruled out first. I'm aware that this was posted over a year ago, but I'd like to reply in case someone else visits and needs an answer to the question. Had you had PCOS, it's likely that you would have known that before you were 42. Good luck!
