Hi BDT

My primary care doctor (general care/family doctor) just got done telling me last month that there really is no set test for IBS as people have IBS and can have a absolute fine results from a colonoscopy. Maybe you might want to think about a different doc if he is being this unreasonable. Take care of yourself. Hugs.

colonoscopy

Hi,

There isn't a test for IBS, but my Gastro. dr said the colonoscopy rules out cancer and other conditions first. Once it's all ruled out they determine that it's IBS through the results and typical symptoms. Kind of process of elimination life fibro diagnosis.

What part of the prep is making you sick?

saw GI doc today

So, I saw the GI doc for the first time today. He thinks I have an ulcer and IBS. I go in 2 weeks for upper GI, then the following week for colonoscopy. He gave me script for dicyclomine for the ibs now. I've only taken 1 so far, and it has already helped the lower abdominal pain. Hope you can get your doctor to help you soon.

Hi BDT

Please be absolutely up front with your doctor from the beginning and say you can't afford a colonoscopy. Otherwise, it may appear like you are trying to avoid the colonoscopy just to get the meds.

There may be other tests that are less expensive that will work without doing the colonoscopy and your doctor and you should be able to talk about it and work that out. But be honest right away with your doctor about money being a real factor. Good luck and hugs.
