Frequently Asked Questions about XAND Answered at Whittemore-Peterson Institute Website

  [ 24 votes ]   [ Discuss This Article ]
www.ProHealth.com • October 9, 2009

The Whittemore-Peterson Institute website includes an XMRV section, featuring an FAQ that provides straightforward answers to many questions patients and others would logically have regarding the XMRV retrovirus and “the new disease entity” which WPI has dubbed X Associated Neuro-immune Disease, or XAND.

Just one example:

• What is the link between XMRV, ME/CFS, and Fibromyalgia? (Part of the answer: “A few fibromyalgia samples were tested and yes, they were positive,” though WPI suggests it's possible those few may really have undiagnosed ME/CFS in addition to FM.)

For those seeking more information on retroviruses per se, there is a link to a PowerPoint presentation at the bottom of the WPI “XMRV Overview” page.

Future Research and Opportunities to Participate

According to the initial Oct 8 WPI news release, “Those with XAND (ME/CFS) and/or fibromyalgia interested in participating in research studies to further the development of diagnostic tests are advised to ask the WPI for a questionnaire” by e-mailing: mike.hillerby@wpinstitute.org.

Note: HOWEVER, as of Oct 13, we see that the WPI answers the question "How do I volunteer for clinical trials or other research?" by stating "We are working on an interactive form for our website. It should be available in the next few days."
