Open Enrollment for Fibromyalgia Drug Studies Announced by Clinical Pharmacology Study Group

  [ 19 votes ]   [ Discuss This Article ] • June 21, 2010

The Clinical Pharmacology Study Group (CPSG) is currently participating in several clinical trials for fibromyalgia in their Worcester, Mass. facility. [Note: CPSG describes itself as a multidisciplinary team focused on conducting clinical trials of investigational drugs. It is part of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences. So far we have not learned what drugs will be tested in these FM studies.]

Subjects who enroll in a clinical trial are carefully selected from a list of inclusion and exclusion criteria designed to ensure safety for the subject. Patients selected to participate in this study are followed by a team of experts in fibromyalgia. All study related medications and care are at no cost to the patient. The study group works closely with the patient care provider (PCP), or other specialist, to ensure that all the medical professionals are involved in the treatment of the patient.

Females are typically more affected with fibromyalgia. The symptoms of fibromyalgia are chronic widespread pain, fatigue, and heightened pain in response to pressure. Other symptoms may include tingling of the skin, prolonged muscle spasms, weakness in the limbs, nerve pain, functional bowel and chronic sleep disturbance.

"Total patient care is our top priority at CPSG. We educate and treat the individual about the disease and the study. If our medical team concludes that the patient would be better served with an alternative medical treatment, we will help coordinate that care for patients. We pride ourselves in offering superior patient care throughout the study", stated Mary Coughlin, RN, a Partner of CPSG.
