I am amazed at the amount of news I hear now about the vitamin D importance. I used to never hear about that vitamin. I have had fibromyalgia for years and also arthritis and just all over pain and fatigue and I am 57 but have felt this way for several years and couldn't understand it. Finally I found a dr who tested me for vitamin D and it was 7 so he put me on 100,000 mcg 2 x a week. It has made my legs not hurt as bad at night. I don't know that it will be a cure but I can tell a difference. I don't know what my final dose will be. He also told me to try to get at least 15 minutes of sunshine once or twice a day if possible. I would like to see lots more about this vitamin deficiency report on here and thank you for this site. I really enjoy it.

Hi kittytom! How odd that, as you say, we are now finding out about the importance of Vitamin D. Years ago, I had a doctor tell me I consumed too much Calcium so I quit drinking milk! Now I have osteopenia, same age bracket as you. Just had a visit 2day with a neurosurgeon who told me I needed to consume 1,000 Units of Vitamin D daily along with 1,200 milligrams of Calcium Citrate as my bones are thinning. She also wants me to have labwork to check Vitamin D levels, B-12 levels & Folate levels -- so see what comes of that. My P.A. suggested (after the results of my Dexa Scan) on getting 30-60 minutes of sunshine a day, like your doctor told you. Amazingly, my mom, who is 88, had a normal Dexa Scan. She consumes very little dairy products but has done lots of suntanning her entire life. In telling my P.A. about this she stated that it is actually green, leafy vegetables that contain the most Calcium. Maybe that has helped my mom since she eats lots of "green". She also has no fibro. Maybe, kittycom, if we incorporate more sunshine, leafy green vegetables, & take our Calcium supplements, as prescribed, we can eliminate some of this fibromyaglia pain? All we can do is keep trying!
