If you can get to DePaul University’s Lincoln Park Campus on Tuesday, April 28...

Don’t miss this day of professional presentations, workshops, networking, continuing education credits, and lunch for just $25 ($10.00 for students; no fee for those in need). Advance notice of attendance appreciated; door registration possible. To register, click here.

“Whether you are faculty, staff, student, parent, support group leader, case worker, counselor, or employer, you will find valuable information and stimulating conversations on navigating a career or graduate school while managing a chronic illness,” says Lynn Royster, Director of DePaul’s Chronic Illness Initiative. The CII “provides access to higher education for students, age 24 or older, who are disabled by a chronic illness,” through the University’s School for New Learning.

The many presentations, workshops, and discussions will include, for example:

• Managing chronic illness: Am I the same person I always was or am I better? How we perceive ourselves and how others perceive us. Damn the torpedoes! (keynote by Karen McCulloh, Exec. Director, disabilityworks)

• Empowering students with chronic illness: The value of support groups

• Mind the gaps: Professional skill development during times of illness

• Access, accommodations, & advocacy: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in the workplace

• Empowering students with chronic illness: Making good decisions about the future

• Bringing your employment search to new avenues with technology

• Developing effective attitudinal and presentational skills: Studentship strategies that can translate to the workplace.

• Succeeding through collaboration and participatory learning/teaching: A workshop on the why, what, and how of the Learner-Teacher Team.

• University resources for finding employment

• Community & Family Support Networks

• Working while receiving Social Security cash benefits

• And much more (see the 10-page listing of presentation abstracts).
