Dr. Judy Mikovits XMRV Q&A

Background

On January 22, Dr. Judy Mikovits, PhD, director of research for the Whittemore Peterson Institute for Neuro-Immune Disease,* conducted a 2½-hour XMRV seminar in Santa Barbara, CA.

The patient-oriented event was sponsored by the HHV-6 Foundation and ProHealth.com, and was introduced by WPI Founder & President Annette Whittemore.

This highly informative presentation and Q&A cover a multitude of intriguing details and plans that patients & researchers worldwide have been speculating about for months - since discovery of the XMRV retrovirus in ME/CFS patients’ blood was reported last October in the journal Science,** and a later paper by UK researchers published in PLoS One reported finding no XMRV.

____

* Located within the University of Nevada School of Medicine’s Center for Molecular Medicine, the Whittemore Peterson Institute (www.wpinstitute.org) will be the nation’s first comprehensive translational research facility dedicated to the research and treatment of neuro-immune diseases when it opens September of 2010.

** “Detection of an Infectious Retrovirus, XMRV, in Blood Cells of Patients with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome,” Lombardi VC, Mikovits JA, et al. Science, Oct 8, 2009.

Thank you so much for posting these. They aren't Downloadable though. It says they are and we followed the directions many times. Even my tech geek husband can't download them so something is wrong. tee

Prohealth: thanks for posting these! Looking forward to the slides! teejkay: I used a Firefox add-on called Video Download Helper to download the videos for my internet-challenged friends who need to see these videos. Other add-ons should work. Good luck.

Use 'RealPlayer' .. a free download. Install both the player & downloader. It will store the downloaded files in flv. format. In the downloader, click 'View Downloads', Best_Chris

There were two problems with the video. -The sound was far too low. It made listening extremely difficult for me, a native speaker, and impossible for non native speakers. -It was not possible to go back and listen to just one piece (for example where it was inaudible). You had to go right back to the beginning. What I could catch of the presentation was great. Thank you for trying.

Dr. Mikovits, Thank you for all you are doing to unravel this tragic illness. It seems like your discoveries are finally starting to initiate the mainstream medical community to expend some resources to look at this. For us patients, we can't thank you enough. Tom

I think the speaker answered a lot of the questions very well and clearly. The discovery of the XMRV retrovirus is an important milestone, and I hope that the treatment of that virus would be covered in time.

The video by Dr. Mikovits was highly informative though I do agree with the poster above regarding a low source volume level.
