Living with Fibromyalgia Workshop
May 25, 2002
Living with Fibromyalgia, the first in a series of Fibromyalgia workshops will be presented on May 25, 2002 at Quest, the Center for Physical and Spiritual Fitness located at 1455 19th Street from 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
You will gain and develop new coping skills and behaviors as it relates to your daily challenges of living with Fibromyalgia. In Martha Singer's workshop you will learn how to control your inner voice and find the power within to keep you in charge of what you think. She will teach you various methods to be able to change your perspective to help you deal with the pain, depression, and fatigue of fibromyalgia.
The exact cause of fibromyalgia is unknown. It is considered a form of Arthritis. There are many theories about why people get fibromyalgia, but none have been proven. The symptoms include aching and pain in your muscles, tendons and ligaments in various places all over the body, sleep disturbance, depression, headaches, numbness and tingling of the feet and hands, memory difficulties, dizziness, and various other symptoms.
The diagnosis may take anywhere from 2 – 4 years. Some patients are told it is “in your head.” A rheumatologist should be seen for proper diagnosis. There is a set criteria which includes having a minimum amount of tender points and more than three months of chronic pain along with other various symptoms.
FEE: Pre-registration $15 before May 20, 2002 $20 at the door. Includes materials.
