Chemical Bombardment

In today's world we are bombarded with chemicals 24/7. The health effects have been studied very little. Indoor air pollution is beginning to be shown to be worse and to cause just as many if not more health problems than outdoor air pollution. I meet at least two people per month who are more than a little affected by the chemicals in everyday products. It would be great if ProHealth would address this more often.

And it would be beneficial to address the chemicals which are endocrine disruptors. Allergic-type reactions to chemicals are becoming much more abundant than classic allergies to such things as dust mites, pollen, animal dander, etc. I wouldn't be at all surprised if a number of people who think they are allergic to pollen and such are actually having a reaction to man made chemicals. – Sharon

Note: If you have questions about chemical sensitivities, ME/CFS/FM, or any related conditions, plan to join the Live Chat Q&A with research reporter Cort Johnson on Friday, March 7 from 3 to 4 pm PST in ProHealth's Community Chat Rooms. To read about Cort's serious struggle with chemicals & ME/CFS, and his dedication to sharing the latest knowledge in plain language, click here.

Tell Me Something Positive

I have been plagued with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome since 1996. I also suffer from insomnia and headaches. But I am also getting old – in a couple years I will be 50 – so many topics are of interest to me, from Alzheimer’s to diabetes. Just tell us anything that can make us feel good both physically and "mentally," and that can help us improve our health! Of course anything promising, positive or even some anecdotal positive story helps. You are doing an excellent job as it is, I do not know how you could improve anything. – Christian

Note: We had to smile at your comment about “getting old.” Although an illness like ME/CFS can make you feel old, it’s really all a matter of perspective. To someone in their 20s, you may seem old, but to someone in their 80s, you’re still a mere child.

Diagnosing Diabetes

Re: A reader’s comment – “If You Even Suspect Diabetes...” If you suspect you may have diabetes, a fasting blood test is a much better way to evaluate it than urine testing. – Deborah

More Info, Less Medicalese

Thank you for all your wellness newsletters. I look forward to receiving and reading them. But each time I click onto one of your topics, they are very limited in information and very short. They also don't give me much help on how well something works on the body or how much of said topic should be taken. If you could make the topics for the reader – not the physician – to understand, this would be worth the time to read it. – Wendy

Unsweetened Cranberry Juice, Please

Re: The article “Cranberries - Foil for Bladder Infections, Ulcers, Flu...and More” I totally agree with the statement on the use of cranberry juice. However, if you go to the grocery store, you will find in all major brands of this juice, enough sugar to choke a horse and send a diabetic into a coma. Please tell all of us where to find a good product. – Ann

Note: Your best bet for finding unsweetened cranberry juice is a health food store. Ocean SprayR makes a 100% natural unsweetened cranberry juice, but many grocery stores do not carry it. The demand for it is likely low because of its bitter taste. There are also cranberry extract capsules available if the unsweetened juice is just too sour for your taste.

Testosterone Replacement – Not For Men Only

[I’d like to see] the latest news on hormone replacement for men as well as women. My own testosterone replacement turned my waning enthusiasm for life around seven years ago and I am now the energetic and physical woman I was in my youth (I am a lifelong professional fitness instructor). Fortunately I have an up-to-date gynecologist who listened when I described my depression and lack of energy. She did tests and, as she suspected, I was very depleted in testosterone, no doubt due to my age – I was 63 at the time.

I am now a Personal Trainer, Weight Management Consultant and currently studying Clinical Rehabilitation Therapy to add to my personal CV. All of these qualifications have been achieved since commencing the testosterone therapy (renewed interest in my career). The gynecologist informed me that testosterone is now being added to women's HRT - hormone replacement therapy - alongside the estrogen replacement, yet my own doctor was surprised when I mentioned this. – Pat

Agree with "More Info, Less Medicalese", and also...

....in that more info rather than such short articles would be very beneficial. Also, it is very frustrating to click on one of the headings in the left column, only to read they are selling something to "cure" fibromyalgia. In fact, not only CURE, but be the ONLY REAL cure (?) to the point of contradicting EACH OTHER. You state at the top of the column that purchases fund research; however, they tend to undermine and discredit the rest of your site and the service you are trying to provide, almost to the point of making me wonder if I really CAN take the rest of the information and research here seriously. I do not want to point fingers at any one specific ad here, mostly because even one ad such as that is a grave disservice to a population that is already vulnerable, and looking to you for credible information and help. I sincerely appreciate the information you provide. I hope you become more discriminate about products sold here, or at the very least, the wording used in these ads and hold them to more respectable standards as your site deserves.
