Perfect presents for people with chronic pain

Perfect presents for people with chronic pain
Reprinted with the kind permission of Sarah Borien and A Life Less Physical

We’re almost at the end of September which means, try as you might, you can’t ignore the fact it will be Christmas before you know it. And whilst spoonies are just like everyone else with a long list of things they covet, there are some things which are particularly helpful to people with chronic pain.

What better way to show how much you love the spoonie in your life than by treating them to a gift that will help them to cope? Check out some of these health-related presents from online retailer UncommonGoods.

I was gifted two products of my choice from UncommonGoods in exchange for an honest review on my blog. All views are my own and I have not been influenced by the company.

UncommonGoods is an online store selling everything from home decor to garden items and everything in between. But, more importantly to a socially conscious shopper like myself is their commitment to sustainability and responsible business. I love finding companies who not only create great products but do it in an environmentally friendly and socially responsible way – you may remember my Inkifi post on this very topic a few months ago.

One of the things I really love about UncommonGoods is that every item you view includes a description of the maker along with details of the product materials. When I find the products I love are vegan friendly, use recycled materials, are handmade or organic, I want to pop them in my basket that bit quicker. With UncommonGoods you also get to support a not-for-profit organisation by donating at the checkout. If you want to learn more about UncommonGoods and their ethos, take a look at their mission.

Wondering what you can buy your totally awesome friend who suffers from chronic pain? Here we go…

Ease our pain

By now you all know that heat’s my thing. I cannot explain to you how important it is to me and, as a fibromyalgia and migraine sufferer, lavender heat packs are an essential part of my coping strategy. This one looks particularly beautiful.

I also really like the idea of this yoga pack. I started yoga in my home a few months ago, but I never do it in between classes because I can never remember the poses. This is a pretty genius way around that.

In the end though, I went for these ballerina warming slippers. You remove the inner soles and put them in the microwave to soothe your cold, painful feet. What a completely genius idea! My feet are so sore all the time, and I often feel like I’m walking on glass. The insoles only need 30 seconds in the microwave and then warm and ready to go back in the slippers. I can’t quite decide if I love them as much as I’d hoped… They’re a bit bumpy to walk on (they have lavender beans inside) which mean they’re not quite as comfortable as my fur booties, but they’re absolutely great if you’re happy to sit down and put your feet up. In fact, enforced relaxation is probably a good thing so maybe just get them for that?!

Let’s be practical

Can’t afford to go to the spa? Bring the spa to your home! (How many times have we heard that?) It’s all well and good, but my home is nothing like a relaxing spa. Still, it’s worth checking out the range of pillows and blankets because with a few things like this lavender pillow, it could start to feel a bit more spa-like.

There are also a great range of things for the house. Seeing as I spend a lot of time curled up on my sofa or resting in my bed, I reckon this sofa table is pretty perfect and this bed pocket is ideal too.

I ended up choosing a new zipped pouch. I never leave the house without my medicine bag, but I’ve been using the same foxy one for the past four years and it’s getting a bit grubby. It was tough to choose between this one made from upcycled fire hose material, this moon pouch made from beeswax, and this gorgeous orange glitch bag. I ended up going for the moon pouch, because it’s gorgeous. When it arrived, it was bigger than I imagined (the measurements are on the site but I have no concept of size) and really beautiful. The texture is unlike anything I’ve ever felt; it feels unique, freshly new and yet already used all at the same time. I like it a lot.

Everyone loves a treat

There are so many gift ideas and you can scroll through them all here, but a couple of my favourites are in the jewellery section. I adore this necklace; a beautiful pendant which holds aromatherapy oil at the same time as looking glorious.

I also love statement jewellery and this bracelet with a pendant that means ‘warrior‘ is great – can you get any more spoonie than that?

And then there’s this perfect present for empowered women everywhere. I love it.

Check out UncommonGoods for more ideas for your spoonie loved ones. Which are your favourites?
