2004 Madison AACFS Seventh International Conference on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, and other Related Illnesses WHEN: October 8-10, 2004 WHERE: Alliant Energy Center - Madison, Wisconsin. Hotels providing accommodations will include the Clarion Suites and the Sheraton. PROGRAM: Research, clinical and patient venue to be announced in June Brochure. This conference will be held October 8-10, 2004, in Madison, Wisconsin. It will be hosted locally by The Wisconsin CFS Association, with assistance in meeting organization from the Wisconsin Medical Society. The conference will be held in the Alliant Energy Center, and hotels providing accommodations will include the Clarion Suites and the Sheraton Madison. The program will be announced, but it will be divided into three segments on research, clinical and patients' topics. The research, clinical, and patient conference sections and their objectives are summarized as follows: Research Conference Section Daniel J. Clauw, MD, co-chair
Kenny De Meirleir, MD, PhD, co-chair The Research Conference section is intended for investigators and clinicians/health care providers. It will follow a traditional format of oral and poster presentations on current research regarding all aspects of CFS, FM, and related illnesses. It will offer a scientific forum to discuss new findings in epidemiology, microbiology, immunology, pathogenesis, psychoneuroimmunology, neurophysiology, clinical presentation, clinical or biologic subgroups, and treatment/rehabilitation. The program is designed to encourage national and international cooperation and shape public policy. Abstract submissions regarding CFS, fibromyalgia, and related disorders are being solicited (see Call for Abstracts). Clinical Conference Section Charles W. Lapp, MD, co-chair
Stanley N. Schwartz, MD, FACP, FIDSA, co-chair The Clinical Conference section is designed for practicing physicians and other healthcare professionals. Employing lectures and round table discussions, it will provide clinicians with state-of-the-art (and science) clinical skills, including the tools needed to care for CFS/FM and associated conditions. It will advance their knowledge of the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of CFS and Fibromyalgia, and will offer the most current information on laboratory tests, therapeutic interventions, biological and neuropsychiatric aspects of CFS and Fibromyalgia, and perspectives on disability and rehabilitation. Patient Conference Section Dharam V. Ablashi, DVM, MS, Dip. Bact., co-chair
Nancy G. Klimas, MD, co-chair The Patient Conference Section is intended to provide patients, advocates, and family members with the current state of knowledge, as well as practical skills for managing life with a chronic illness. It will offer two different types of experiences. One will be the more traditional lectures, panel discussions and workshops on research advances, treatment and controversies in the fields of CFS and FM. The second is intended to be more therapeutic with patient and family sessions on strategies for coping with chronic illness, doctor-to-patient issues, energy management skills, disability issues, and leadership workshops to develop skills in advocacy. You won't want to miss this one! Sign up early, as the small group sessions will be limited. FOR MORE INFORMATION and to register, call (815) 609-0520.
