Stop Free Radical Damage with Alpha Lipoic Acid

Metaphorically speaking, alpha lipoic acid is Superman. As alpha lipoic acid is predominately a powerful antioxidant in itself, the body suddenly converts it into an antioxidant with even more potential, dihydrolipoic acid. This superhero peels off its disguise as an ordinary antioxidant and recirculates other antioxidants such as vitamin E, C, and coenzyme Q10, to boost the body's protection against free radicals. Free radicals are linked to causing cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and rheumatic inflammation.

In its primary form, alpha lipoic acid fights hydroxyl and single-oxygen free radicals while in its converted form, it combats the free radicals, peroxyl and peroxynitrate.

On its own, the human body does not make enough of alpha lipoic acid to reap the benefits of its antioxidant properties. The rich potential can only be reached if taken as a supplement.

Besides neutralizing free radicals, alpha lipoic acid is a safe subsidiary for people with diabetic nueropathy. The results of some studies suggest alpha lipoic acid decreases resistance to insulin. To counterbalance the blood sugar level, it helps the body burn sugars at a faster rate. Symptoms of nerve damage may also be reduced. Specifically, between 300 Ð 600 mg a day are recommended for those suffering from diabetic nueropathy. Diabetics should consult with their physician before beginning any nutritional supplementation.

When glucose is burned in muscle cells, energy is released. Alpha lipoic acid speeds up the sugar burning activity, granting an increase in muscular energy. Along the same lines, alpha lipoic acid breaks down food and impedes fat production by redirecting calories. By decreasing insulin resistance and reducing fat production, alpha lipoic acid may be helpful to those with coronary heart disease and obesity problems.

Alpha lipoic acid's potential may extend to people suffering from neurological disorders and memory failure. Because it is fat and water soluble, alpha lipoic acid is able to stay in many different tissues. As a powerful agent against free radical-related diseases, diabetic nueropathy, and low energy, alpha lipoic acid is important for staying healthy.
