The 1998 American Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Conference in Cambridge, MA was a tremendous time of education and discussion on many different aspects of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Doctors and patients alike came to the Hyatt Regency Hotel for this three day event hoping to both acquire and share information on this debilitating disease.

There was a different focus on each day of the conference. The first day and a half highlighted recent research being performed across the world on CFIDS and included a fascinating presentation on symptom fluctuations and outcome of CFS over time by Dr. Lana A. Tiersky. On the second day of the conference, the focus was on clinical research offering viable options for the treatment of CFIDS, most notably NADH and anticoagulant therapy. The third day of the conference was devoted to patients and ended with an in-depth, and often intense discussion on possible name change alternatives for CFIDS.

Other high points of the conference included the poster presentation room and the exhibitors' corridor where the conference attendees could receive free literature and information on numerous treatment options for CFIDS. Exhibitors included Hemex Laboratories, Immunosciences Lab, and the CFIDS & Fibromyalgia Health Resource.

Aside from the new and innovative research presented at the conference, it was also a time for patients and doctors to connect. Countless hours were spent in the hotel lobby and exhibitor area to discuss the intriguing new research presented in the discussions and poster presentations. All in all, the 1998 AACFS conference was a rousing success.
