Connecticut CFIDS & FM Association, Inc. Spring Conference April 16, 2005, 1-4pm The Politics of Epidemiology and Name Change; How to Differentiate between CFIDS and Depression Presented by Leonard Jason, PhD The Role of NMR Spectroscopy in Evaluation of CFIDS Patients; Possible Genetic Link in CFIDS Population Presented by Susan M. $9 for non-members Featured Speakers: Leonard A. Jason, PhD, is a highly respected CFIDS researcher who has received many awards for his work in this field. He received his PhD in Clinical/Community Psychology from the University of Rochester and is the Director of the Center for Community Research and a Professor of Psychology at DePaul University in Chicago. He is a renowned author of numerous published articles and research papers and is the current Vice President of The American Association of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Dr. Jason will discuss the epidemiology (incidence, distribution, and control) of CFIDS. Dr. Jason's research has found that as many as 800,000 people nationwide may suffer from the illness. He will also address the controversy of changing the name of CFIDS, including whether and if it will help the illness to be taken more seriously. Susan M. Levine, MD is a well-established physician and researcher who has a large CFIDS and patient population in her New York City office practice. She is certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases and is the Medical Director of the Chronic Fatigue Activation Network, Medical Co-Director of the New Jersey CFS Association Inc., and member of the Name Change Working Group of the U.S. CFS Coordinating Committee. Dr. Levine is a published researcher and has presented her work on both a local and national level. Dr. Levine will explain NMR spectroscopy and how it can aid in evaluating CFIDS patients. She will also discuss her current study of a possible genetic link in CFIDS patients. Dr. Jason and Dr. Levine attended The American Association of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Conference in Wisconsin. Stop by the hospital information desk located in the Main Lobby.
