For those struggling to cope with issues relating to FM or CFS, this “psychoeducational/support” group program is designed to help. The six week series - "Restoring Balance: Learning to Live with Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome" - will be led by Carolyn Walter, PhD, LCSW and Stephanie Costello, MSW, LCSW.
Both have Fibromyalgia, and as leading educators in the field bring a combination of personal and professional knowledge to bear. Dr. Walter is a professor of social work at the Center for Social Work Education at Widener University and maintains a private practice in Newtown Square. She has run similar programs through the Stanford Center for Research and Disease Prevention and elsewhere.
Ms. Costello has 15 years of experience in community mental health and employee assistance programs and has led many groups on stress management, communication skills and depression/substance abuse in the workplace. She maintains a private practice in Philadelphia.
The first meeting is slated for 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., Thursday April 12. Sessions will include group sharing and education, discussion and ideas exchange, and presentations by various experts at the Haverford Wellness Center on topics such as pain, sleep, and nutrition.
