FRIDAY, DEC 7...OUR LIVE CHAT Q&A with Dr. R. PAUL St. AMAND - Developer of the Guaifenesin Protocol - From 3 - 4 pm Pacific Time (6 - 7 Eastern)

  [ 142 votes ]   [ Discuss This Article ] • December 2, 2007

An Live Chat Q&A Event - with internationally recognized Fibromyalgia specialist R. Paul St. Amand, MD - is scheduled for Friday, December 7 in the streamlined new Community Chat Room. That's from 3-4 pm Pacific Time (PST), but for the time where you live, see the World Clock. You'll be able to enter the Dr. St. Amand Live Chat Room (scroll down using the bar on the right side of the chat screen to find it) a few minutes before the formal chat start.

This is a unique opportunity to question Dr. St. Amand directly about Fibromyalgia fatigue, pain and other symptoms, coping and treatment strategies, energy-building diet and exercise - and, of course, his Guaifenesin Protocol. If you aren't a regular chat user, you may register now. (It takes only a moment, and because the new animated chat employs Flash, you will see a link to download Flash Player if needed.)

Decades of FM-Management Experience

An Endocrinologist, Dr. St. Amand is a graduate of Tufts University School of Medicine, and Director of the Fibromyalgia Treatment Center in Marina Del Rey, CA, where he sees FM patients from all over the world. Dr. St. Amand is also Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine-Endocrinology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he has been on the teaching staff for more than 40 years - and is currently collaborating on a study of gene activation in Fibromyalgia with the City of Hope in Duarte, CA.

Best Known for the Guaifenesin Protocol

Among Fibromyalgia patients and specialists, Dr. St. Amand is perhaps best known as developer of the Guaifenesin Protocol. He and his Medical Assistant, Claudia Craig Marek - both FM patients themselves - have written a number of books for Fibromyalgia patients. The most recent, What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia, offers basic education about how to manage “the many facets of Fibromyalgia,” including particularly hypoglycemia, plus a description of their ongoing work employing Guaifenesin to support reversal of FM symptoms.

Background Reading

For information about the Guaifenesin Protocol and the work of Dr. St. Amand and Claudia Marek, a specialist in FM patient counseling for nearly 15 years, see:

n "An FM Patient Counselor’s Primer on the Guaifenesin Protocol" by Claudia Marek.

n "The Guaifenesin Story: A centuries-old bark extract used for clearing the airways - now key to a popular symptom-reversal protocol" in the ImmuneSupport archive.

n "Hypoglycemia - and Dietary Guidelines for Hypoglycemics" In this "short course" on carbohydrate intolerance, common in FM and ME/CFS patients, Dr. St. Amand and Claudia Marek explain what it is, requirements for proper diagnosis, dietary restrictions required to control it, and foods that may be included in two diets for hypoglycemics - one "liberal" (for maintenance) and one "strict" (for weight loss).

n “Planning Your Exercise Regimen” - an excerpt from Claudia Marek’s book The First Year - Fibromyalgia: An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed. It has been praised as "uncommonly realistic advice for coping with FM, from a Fibromyalgia sufferer who is also an experienced therapist."

n "City of Hope Embarking on Three-Year Study of Inflammatory Gene Activation in FM Patients" - a project involving a subset of Dr. St. Amand's patients.

n Readers' reviews of other books by Dr. St. Amand and Claudia Marek, including: What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia Fatigue; and What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Pediatric Fibromyalgia.
