Shedding some extra pounds is beneficial for your joints, helping to reduce stress on the knees. If you’ve made the resolution to lose weight, here are a few suggestions to help get you on your way:

- Eating proper portions is a key to maintaining healthy weight. For example a single serving of meat (3 ounces) is about the size of the palm of your hand, and a serving of vegetables, the size of your fist.

- You should avoid eating fast food altogether, but if you must, try to make healthy choices, such as grilled not fried meat, avoid mayo, and get a side salad instead of fries and water instead of soft drinks.

- Take your vitamins. A multivitamin is a good way to fill nutritional gaps in your diet. Your body and your joints will benefit from calcium, vitamin K, vitamin C, folic acid and more.
