The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) has expedited release of a German study that reports evidence of XMRV in the respiratory tract secretions of 2.3% to 9.9% of patients who had presented to them with respiratory tract infections, as well as 3.2% of samples from subjects without respiratory tract infections whom they used as controls. The subgroup demonstrating the highest incidence (9.9%)were immunosuppressed patients.

To read a summary of the new report, titled "Xenotropic Murine Leukemia Virus-related Gammaretrovirus in Respiratory Tract," and to link to a PDF of the full article, published online May 18 by the CDC publication Emerging Infectious Diseases, click here.

XMRV chronic rhinosinusitis?
Posted by: KerryK
