The Fourth International American Association for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (AACFS) Conference, sponsored in part by ProHealth, is the weekend of October 10-12 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The purpose of the conference, sponsored in part by ProHealth is to encourage national and international collaboration and increase public awareness about CFIDS.

The 1998 AACFS conference will offer the latest research and clinical information on the causes, pathophysiology, and treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). New and promising diagnostic and management strategies for CFS and Fibromyalgia (FMS) will be presented. There will also be detailed discussions of rehabilitation strategies, as well as the most current information on disability issues. Other highlights of the conference include an informal "Lunch with the Experts" and a keynote address by Robert Bennett, M.D., on the Interrelationship of CFS and FMS, and Recent Research Advances in FMS at the Perpich Memorial Lecture and Banquet.

For 1998, The AACFS Conference has been organized into three sessions. Each session will provide opportunities for interaction between conference attendees and panel members through lecture and discussion.

The Scientific Research Session, on October 10th, will present cutting edge research findings from national and international researchers in the areas of Epidemiology, Microbiology, Immunology, Physiology, Neuropsychiatry, Interdisciplinary Studies and Clinical Studies.

On the 11th, the Doctor to Doctor Clinical Session will address the day-to-day concerns of clinicians in all health professions who are caring for patients with CFS and FMS. This session has been designed to maximize dialogue between health professionals, and clinical and research experts.

The final session, the Patient Conference, will be held on Monday, October 12th. New for '98, it is designed to offer the latest research and clinical information to patients "in plain English".

Join the AACFS and ProHealth in the ongoing campaign against CFIDS. The registration fee for all three days of the conference is $180 for members of the CFIDS Association. All patients are welcome to attend all three days of the AACFS Conference, but those unable to attend the full conference can participate in the one-day Patient Conference on October 12th for only $50.

Family members are also encouraged to attend. The Hyatt Regency Hotel is just a few minutes away from Boston as well as numerous museums and historical sites. Discount conference rates apply for the three days before and after the conference. Conference registration, hotel and airline reservations are being managed by Certified Travel ([800]-237-1517).
