Chase Free Money: VOTING ENDS TODAY, May 25, for WPI & CAA

  [ 12 votes ]   [ 4 Comments ] • May 20, 2011

To the patient & advocate community:

Congratulations to all who voted in Round 1 of the Chase Community Giving contest. Both the CFIDS Association of America (CAA) and the Whittemore-Peterson Institute got $25,000 in Round 1!

The CAA placed # 23 and the WPI placed # 5 overall.

NOW the big time has started - the top 100 charities have gone on to Round 2; voting will end May 25; and the payouts are potentially much more. (Up to $500,000 and not less than $20,000 for the 25 charities winning the most votes.*)

NOW it’s very important to vote for these organizations - CAA and WPI. As FrenchTulip posted in the comments below, each person can vote for 5 charities, so voting for both can boost overall funding of much-needed research and services for the chronic illness community - ME/CFS, FM, MCS, Lyme, IBS, HHV-6, PTSD, Gulf War illness, Cancer, and more.

Round 2 voting began May 19, and will end at 11:59 PM EST on Wednesday, May 25.
(You can live anywhere in the world, but you must have a Facebook account to vote. Ask your family and friends to vote too. It’s free money.)

What If You Don't Have a Facebook Account or Didn't Vote in Round 1?
You can vote at the WPI & CAA links below, but first:

1. If you don't have a Facebook account, go to and sign up (it's free). You'll receive a welcome e-mail. Verify your receipt of it by clicking "get started."

2. Then, for new sign-ups and those with accounts who didn't vote in round 1, go to the Chase Community Giving Facebook page ( and simply click on their little thumbs up "like" button at the top.

3. And finally, everyone, go to the WPI and/or CAA links below to vote.

Please vote for both the CFIDS Assn. AND the WPI!

Each person is allowed five votes. So you may vote for both the CFIDS Assn. and the WPI. If everyone votes for both organizations, we could win $900,000! All prize money for both organizations will be used for research of ME/CFS/CFIDS and related illnesses. Round Two is the last time these two charities can compete in the Chase Community Giving Contest unless the rules change. Current rules exclude organizations which have won money in previous Chase Contests from participating again. Please be sure to vote!

CFIDS Association of America's "BIG IDEA" for Chase Community Giving
Posted by: QuayMan
May 19, 2011 i.e. (150 word limit) In spite of its silly-sounding name, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is as disabling as cancer, multiple sclerosis and late HIV disease. As many as 17 million children and adults around the world have CFS, and we still don't understand its causes. To end the suffering CFS inflicts, the CFIDS Association of America is building a critical mass of rigorous research that validates the biological basis for CFS and leads to better ways to diagnose and treat it. We're putting research first to achieve the vision of a future in which the life-altering disability, stigma and isolation of CFS no longer exist. Your vote will help us award grants to support new research studies exploring diagnostics and treatments; expand our SolveCFS BioBank with more samples and clinical information on patients and healthy volunteers; and build a data-sharing platform to help researchers aggregate and analyze information using powerful bioinformatics tools. Based in Charlotte, NC, our work has worldwide impact.

Tthis on WPI Facebook today: A message from Annette Whittemore . "As the competition moves along more charities are combining efforts. In the spirit of working together for patients, we're asking for people to use any unused votes to help support the CAA. Many have already voted for both and we thank you. Let's make medical research and patients a priority on this top 10 list for Chase." ---- Here are the links: (i) the CFIDS Association of America: (ii) the Whittemore Peterson Institute
