Fibromyalgia Not Necessarily a Wrong Diagnosis

Re: Is Hyper-parathyroidism Sometimes Misdiagnosed as Fibromyalgia?

While this is a good discovery and a wise recommendation, the idea that the FM is a wrong diagnosis does not add up.

If the general population incidence of hyperParathyroidism is less the 0.1 percent, then why is it 10% in the FM population? Are they just being wrongly diagnosed or is the immune system disease from which they are suffering causing a higher incidence of hyperParathyroidism?

It was recently discovered that a significant proportion of people with ME have a high incidence of low GFR, does this mean these people are being wrongly diagnosed with ME but should be diagnosed with CKD?

While hyperParathyroidism must be diagnosed and treated, it does not mean that the FM is not present or is independent of the hyperParathyroidism.

We see this error time and time again in ME/CFS/FM. If a known pathology is found then the conclusion is that there has been a "wrong diagnosis" and the ME/CFS/FM is not real or present.

Those people with ME/CFS/FM have a chronic disease and that disease may render those people more likely to get other diseases. What is needed is to be on guard for those diseases occurring not just dismiss all symptoms as just a part of the ME/CFS/FM – this could be a fatal error. – IanH

Thank You for Positive Confirmation

Re: Protecting Your Fibromyalgia Window of Well

In the last 3 years I've had to do exactly what you're article is about! This is the first time I've had what I was doing confirmed as good. Thank you. And thank you for going further and teaching me how to organize this new found tool. – jerogers

I've learned also that there is an optimum time for me to do errands & chores. However, the meds. that I take wear off quickly with respect to controlling my pain, but leave me groggy & unbalanced. My predicament, if I cut back on the prescribed dosage, I suffer more. I appreciate all of the info in the article because it lets me know that there are plenty of women suffering as I do. And, hope springs eternal that the day will come when Fibromyalgia will be recognized as a legitimate disease in this country. – chrystal42

I Told You So!

Re: Lidocaine Injections Found to Reduce Hypersensitivity to Pain in Fibromyalgia Patients

I have been saying for 10 years, Fibro is mainly peripheral pain which then causes centralized pain - much research has proved this including this latest. Yet mainstream researchers are still too focused on the whole central sensitization theory - enough is enough and focus more on the peripheral nerves, muscles and tendons where there is clear dysfunction. – roge

Healthcare Worker Answers Why Physicians Don't Like to Treat FM Patients

Re: Study Answers Question: Why Are Physicians Resistant to Accepting Fibromyalgia Patients?

As a healthcare worker for many years, I was puzzled by many physicians' hesitancy towards treating Fibromyalgia patients. These patients came in with changing symptoms and frustration that there were not absolute solutions. The physicians had few tests to diagnose Fibromyalgia, only to rule out other problems. The frustration level for both doctors & patients was so high, & many doctors believed these changing symptoms indicated hypochondria &/or emotional problems. Even today I know many health providers who don't believe Fibromyalgia is a valid diagnoses. Until a definitive test and successful protocol for treatment is accepted, physicians will continue to choose not to treat these patients. How do you treat a diagnosis you don't believe really exists? – carameads

CoQ10 Improves Energy

Re: Low Aerobic Energy Production and Pain in Fibromyalgia – Is Your Microcirculation to Blame?

I've had such an improvement in energy after using 100mg a day of CoQ10. Takes about 3 days to feel effects. Sometimes I forget to take it because I start feeling better. It helps with the ATP into the mitocondria of the cells. Pub Med has some articles related to Fibromyalgia and CoQ10. The data is really promising. – kimbakat

Diet Plays a Part in Fibromyalgia Remission

Re: Celiac Symptoms in Fibromyalgia Patients

Every piece of research that leads to a clearer understanding of fibromyalgia is a step in the right direction. For many years I suffered with this disease. No matter what I tried the debilitating pain, fatigue, insomnia, "fibro fog," irritable bowel syndrome and other symptoms intensified. Finally, unable to look after my home or myself, I found the unique mind/body/spirit wellness work of Joy of Healing. Because of their special energy work, a healthy diet and exercise program designed to meet my specific needs along with help to deal with the unresolved issues in my life I am well — pain and prescription free. My fibromyalgia has been in remission for more than thirteen years.

Cutting back on processed foods, and eliminating as much of the sugar, wheat and dairy as was possible from my diet certainly helped. For those who are still suffering, research everything including alternative and complementary approaches along with the medical. You know what you are feeling and no one knows your body better than you. – komanchuk

Please Add Men to Fibromyalgia Studies

The Mayo Clinic has stated that if men were properly diagnosed, there would be much less disparity between men and women with Fibro. It is depressing to see studies involving only women. How can you have a full and objective testing program while excluding men? – d9canada
