The CDC has committed to funding nearly $13 million in CFIDS research over the next four years, according to the CNN television network and website.

In a story covered on their news program, "CNN and Time [magazine]," the network reported on the recent CDC scandal involving funds earmarked for CFIDS research being diverted into the study of other diseases. The new director of the CDC has publicly apologized and promised to restore the full funding amount of $12.9 million over the next four years.

The story discussed CFIDS' hallmark symptoms, the battle for recognition of CFIDS as a legitimate disease, and the fact that U.S. soccer star Michelle Akers is a sufferer.

CNN also covered Dr. Dedra Buchwald's study of twins, one with CFIDS and one without, as an example of promising research. Her findings could point to a hereditary element in the disease, facilitating diagnostic tests and perhaps a cure.
