The CFIDS Monthly Update December 2001

Mark your calendar with 2002 Lobby Day dates. The next CFIDS Association Lobby Days will be held March 20-21, 2002 in Washington, D.C. Complete details will be included in future monthly updates as well as being posted on the Association’s web site, www.cfids.org in early January. For additional information or questions, please contact Vicki Walker at vwalker@cfids.org.

NAPS article raises awareness of CFIDS. As part of its efforts to raise awareness of chronic fatigue and immune dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS), The CFIDS Association is sending out a series of three newspaper 'articles' on the illness through the North American Precis Syndicate (NAPS). The first in the series is already appearing in local newspapers across the country.

NAPS is a service that distributes ready-to-use articles on a wide variety of topics to 10,000 U.S. newspapers via hard copy, CD ROM, diskette and the web, and tracks the resulting coverage. The articles are not copyrighted and can be used in their entirety for free--a valuable resource for print publications that are tight on time and staff.

One of the benefits of the NAPS service is that newspapers have the chance to run information about CFIDS that has been written by The CFIDS Association. Even newspapers that do not accept submissions that are not written by their own reporters can use NAPS pieces as source material for an original article.

The CFIDS Association's first NAPS article, "CFIDS is more than just fatigue," was released in May 2001. As of November 12, it has generated 220 newspaper articles in 21 states with a combined readership of more than 23 million.

The Association plans to release two more articles through NAPS in 2002. If you have questions about the NAPS project, or would like a copy of the first NAPS article to use in your local public relations efforts, contact Renee Brehio, Director of Communications, at CFIDS@cfids.org.
