Walk for Awareness 2002

Pro Health Inc., publisher of HEALTHwatch and ImmuneSupport.com, proudly sponsored the 2002 Walk for Awareness, hosted by Invisible No More. The event, which took place on Saturday, May 11 in Washington D.C., demanded attention to "invisible disabilities" like Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue and Immune Dysfunction Syndrome, Myofascial Pain Syndrome, and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, in a strong, visible effort to raise awareness of the debilitating nature of these diseases to our elected representatives and the general public. Guest speakers at the event included Fibromyalgia and Myofascial Pain Syndrome researcher and author Devin Starlanyl, leading CFS and FM clinician Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D., CEO and founder of F.A.C.E.S. Inc., Melanie Woodruff, and other leaders in the CFS/FM community. Pro Health published an informative brochure on the event that detailed the day's itinerary and scheduled speakers, as well as accommodation information and directions to the rally.

Topics analyzed and discussed included causes, diagnosis and treatment of fibromyalgia, rehabilitation strategies, obtaining disability insurance benefits, working with FM, alternative therapies, and successfully managing life with FM.

The New Jersey Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association Presents: “The Evolving Face of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia”

Pro Health was a proud sponsor of The NJCFSA’s spring 2002 conference, “The Evolving Face of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia.” The conference took place on April 27th at the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Speakers included Charles Lapp, M.D., Gudrun Lange, Ph.D., Richard Podell, M.D., and Kenneth Friedman, Ph.D. Topics covered included seeking remission from CFS and FM, the role of the brain in CFS and FM (fact and fiction), recent advances in understanding and treating the pain of fibromyalgia, and physician and patient resources for the diagnosis and treatment of CFS.

New Patient's Guide to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia

As a part of the commitment to providing the latest information and treatment options for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia patients, Pro Health has also published a new Patient's Guide to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. The patient guide answers some of the most frequently asked questions about CFS and FM, including diagnosis, available treatment options, self help advice, and where to find community support. The Patient's Guide to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia reflects Pro Health's mission to empower patients to take control of their health by providing high quality information and alternative treatment options that help guide a newly diagnosed patient on the road to recovery. To receive a free copy of the Patient’s Guide to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, please call Pro Health's toll free number: 1-800-366-6056 or visit: http://www.immunesupport.com/patientsguide.

Editor's note 6/5/02: Based on feedback and suggestions from the CFS/FM community, a second revised version of the CFS & FM Information Guide will soon be available.

Open Label Research Study of Transfer Factor for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Transfer Factor has become the subject of intense scientific interest due to anecdotal research from doctors using transfer factor in their CFS and Multiple Sclerosis patients. Several doctors and clinics, including the Cheney Clinic, are finding transfer factor helpful in treating patients. To follow up on these findings, Pro Health is currently sponsoring a study of Transfer Factor for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). This is a rigorous multi-level study conducted by leading physicians to determine the efficacy of Transfer Factor as a treatment for CFS, and allows the physicians the opportunity to offer two different transfer factor products to their CFS patients. This six-month study will provide additional data as to the efficacy of each product over a fairly large patient sample, as well as offering insight into optimal dosing. Each physician in this study will enroll up to 20 patients who meet the 1988 CDC case definition for CFS on each of the transfer factor products for a period of six months.

Fundraising 2002 Update

• The National Fibromyalgia Partnership, Inc.

• Chicago CFS Association
