Fibromyalgia (FM) [and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS)] are invisible illnesses: others cannot see your pain. You feel alone in your pain and fatigue. No one really knows how terrible you feel. Even when you try to explain it, others cannot understand it because you look so healthy. If you tell people about your illness they won’t believe you, but if you keep it to yourself, you’ll feel totally alone and unsupported. Find at least one person you can talk to about your pain, fatigue, and other symptoms. It should be someone who will believe you, honor your experience, and care about your suffering. Telling someone about your experience helps release your burden. The support you gain from another person will help give you strength to face the challenges of living with FM [and/or CFS]. Remember, you are not alone! (Source: The Fibromyalgia Help Book: Practical Guide to Living Better with Fibromyalgia by Jenny Fransen, R.N., and I. Jon Russell, M.D., Ph.D.)
