Based on clinical and research studies by many different observers, candida overgrowth in your intestine may create what has been called a "leaky gut." Toxins and food allergens may then pass through this membrane and go to other parts of your body, making you feel "sick all over." According to James Brodsky, M.D., "There is much evidence to suggest that C. albicans [candida] is one of the most allergenic microbes. Both immediate and delayed hypersensitivity reactions to candida are very common in the adult population. So how does your physician make a diagnosis of a yeast-related disorder? How does he/she find out why you're troubled by fatigue, headache, depression or other symptoms? He/she bases his/her conclusions on: -Your history or story. This includes not only your main complaints, but also symptoms or events in your past history that are important.
-Your physical examination. This should include an overall look at your body along with closer examination of your skin, eyes, heart, lungs and other parts of your body.
-Laboratory examinations, other tests and x-rays. (Source: Tired - So Tired and the 'Yeast Connection' by William G. Crook, M.D.)
