Confused about my ANA test......

I had a ANA test done but it was 9 different test. It was an ANA Comprehensive Panel and than had
Anti-DNA (DS) Ab Qn
RNP Antibodies
Smith Antibodies
Antiscleroderma-70 Antibodies
Sjogren's Anti-SS-A
Sjogren'S Anti-SS-B
Anti-histone Abs
Anti-Jo-1
Anti-Centromere B Antibodies

Is this the right test for Lupus?
Are there other blood test I should have done?
I've had SX for years but just thought it was all fibro but looking back I can see there were times it sure don't look just like fibro. I also have the butterfly facial rash and it comes and goes.

So confusing

Lupus can be such a challenge to diagnose. The LFA say that if you have a positive ANA test you could have lupus. But if you don't have a positive ANA it doesn't mean you don't have lupus. However, that is not the only thing they use. Lab tests can be all over the place with us. It does seem that if you have one autoimmune disease you could have more. I have SLE and APS. Lots of people have SLE and fibro.

The LFA site just says that if you have positive test for antinuclear antibodies (ANA) you might have lupus. Sorry I can't be of more help. I am sure someone that knows labs will stop by.

anyone else?

Anyone more help with my questions would be great, I see a new Dr next Tuesday.

Also I see others talking about there ANA test, just one where you see above I had 9. Is it just one test when you have the blood test or what? Also I see the test as being like 1:60 or 1:80, I also am guessing this is how the blood test is? Mine (spinal tap) was 0-99 was negative, 100-120 Equivocal, 120+ Positive, nothing with " : " with my numbers.

Hope I can help

The dsDNA and Anti-Sm are Lupus specific, meaning that if at least one of those are elevated, it would help you meet the criteria for a Lupus diagnosis. The other tests are antibody tests for seconday autoimmune disorders that can come along with Lupus or can be diagnosed alone without Lupus.

I have seen some people have ANA results listed 0 to 99; I have not had it that way and do not know how to interpret that. If you had a 9 and it's negative, that's good!

The tests you had were good and should confirm or rule out a diagnosis for now. I said "for now" because Lupus can never really be ruled out; things can change, especially for one who has symptoms.

SandiZ

Thanks for your help.
I didn't have a "9", I had 9 different test. Out of those 9 I didn't know if all of them had to be positive or what.

Hi

No, they don't all have to be positive.

variations

I have also noticed variations in results of ANA test depending on labs. I had both results , the 0 to 99 my result was 606 and the 1:40 my result being 1:80. Can anyone tell me what that means?

ANA

An ANA of 1:40 is considered negative by some labs. 1:80 can be considered borderline.

Here is a good site that explains the titers:
