Need alternate cleaning product suggestions
|
The cleaning products I'm using for the house are making me seriously sick. I just don't know what to use anymore. I live in a place where they do these horrible yearly cleanliness inspections. So you have to clean, even if you are dying. And the stovetop is this awful white porcelain. The only thing that seems to work on it is bleach cleaners, but they're making me really sick. Same goes for the bathroom. Is there anything else that gets the stains out that won't hurt me? I can't take any kind of fumes or strong chemical odors. Thanks.

I'm using Milk Thistle capsules...

to see how I am doing. I have been on these for a month now. I hope this will help me detox faster. As for the cleaning supplies, I don't know...sorry! :-( I was wondering if the newer white sponge pads - Magic Erasers from the product called Mr. Clean did not give off fumes? I tried the older ones a couple of years ago and didn't noticed the strong smells. Wetting it with water and it will help to get off most stains. I even tried it on the stove at the last house we lived in. Take care... :-)

TeaBisqit,
|
I use Bon Ami cleaning powder to clean the stovetop and the bathrooms, it's free of chlorine, perfume or dye. It works very well. I live in florida and I find them at my local Plubix store, for less than a $1.00. Tut90

Try baking soda & "elbow grease." Alternatively, see if first-aid type hydrogen peroxide will help with the stains. It has a mild bleaching action. Can you tolerate citrus-based cleaners? They are pretty good, but some w/MCS don't tolerate. Best wishes.

I have the same problem with mine and what works is Sun and Earth all purpose spray cleaner (it's citrus though) and a brillo pad. Sun and Earth also make a great laundry detergent. For the bathtub I've been using Method eucalyptus tub & tile (scented with natural oils). I also agree with the poster who recommended Bon Ami. For general cleaning I use Method wipes-they are non-toxic and the cleanser in them is naturally derived-I think that they still have an unscented version and they are made of eco-friendly bamboo. These are great for cleanups between major cleanings. I really like the Method line in general and you can get it at Target. Good luck!

steam cleaner

A steam cleaner will do most of the household cleaning jobs without chemicals, including the stove top. I keep old towels, washcloths etc. to use with mine.

I think the Method line of products from Target are good, Baking soda for scrubbing the tub, hydrogen peroxide is good and olive oil is good to shine the faucets and stainless steel.

Nothing seems to work like bleach or amonia. I have been using cloths wet with dish soap and water, just leave them on stains, later pick the cloth up and the stain just wipes up. I find sunlight dish detergent works pretty good, if you can handle that. love glen

coke

I just saw a video where coke was used as a toilet bowl cleaner, squirt the coke all around from the top and let sit for a bit, the acid in the coke is supposed to help take the grounche away. Here is a link to baking soda, vinnegar, and lemon for cleaning. http://housekeeping.about.com/od/environment/a/vinbaklemons.htm love glen
