Contest – Draw a Self-Caricature Depicting Your Pain

  [ Not Yet Rated ]   [ Discuss This Article ] • October 2, 2013

Artistic talent not required.

Celeste Cooper – author, retired nurse and fibromyalgia patient – is sponsoring a contest for self-caricature drawings depicting pain.  The deadline for entries is October 15, 2013.  The winning self-caricature will be published, along with the winner's preferred signature line, in her upcoming book Broken Body, Wounded Spirit: Balancing the See-Saw of Chronic Pain, Winter Devotions.  The winner will also receive a signed copy of the book.

Celeste stresses that you DO NOT need to be an artist to participate.  She points out that even stick figures can show emotion with the tilt of a line or by the words that surround it.  She also notes that everyone who enters will actually be a winner because it is cathartic to do a self-caricature. In fact, experts suggest it is possibly one of the best self-reflection tools available.  For an example of a self-caricature, see the drawing at right.  It is Celeste's own self-drawing taken directly from her personal journal.

Contest guidelines

Entries must be:

  • A self-caricature drawn by you.

  • Black and white only.

  • Submitted in jpg format.

How to enter:

  • Scan your drawing and save it to a file as a jpg.

  • Attach the jpg file to an e-mail with “contest” in the subject line.

  • Send to .

Phase I – All submissions are due no later than October 15, 2013.

Phase II – The top three drawings will be selected by an independent third party and will be uploaded to Celeste's blog by October 18, 2013.

Each drawing will be given an ID number and votes will be tallied via Celeste's author Facebook Page in a post titled “Caricature Contest.”  The Facebook post will include a link to her blog, where you will find the top three drawings along with their assigned ID numbers.

Phase III – Votes will be collected between October 18 and October 25.  The winner will be announced by October 26, 2013 via a specific link from Celeste's blog.  The announcement of the winner will include a two to three sentence signature line of their choice.
