Focus: Informing and empowering women of all walks of life to increase their power over pain.

Admission: Free, open to the public (estimated attendance 500 women in pain, caregivers, and healthcare providers)

Time: Friday, September 18, 2009 - 9 am to 4 pm

Place: California Science Center in downtown Los Angeles.
Exposition Park 39th Street & Figueroa Street Los Angeles, CA 90037

Contact: lucilagarcia@rational360.com or (323) 646-2150

Sponsors: For Grace, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring the ethical and equal treatment of women in pain (www.forgrace.org), and Healthy African American Families (www.haaf2.org).

"According to the National Institutes of Health, women experience more pain than men and are more prone to pain disorders such as fibromyalgia, pelvic pain and rheumatoid arthritis. But because of cultural, economic and political barriers, women are less likely to receive treatment."

At this conference, “women of all ages and ethnicities will come together to seek out the latest information from health care professionals on chronic pain, discuss the importance of gender differences, review current pain management practices, discover alternative therapies for pain control, provide group support, and much more.”

Conference speakers will include:

• Diane Hoffman: Co-Author of “The Girl Who Cried Pain”
• Dr. Patricia Wynn-Jones: Chief of Pain Management, Olympia Medical Center
• Cheryl England: Editor-in-Chief, Southern California Physician Magazine
• Denise Dador: Health Specialist, KABC7 TV
