If I could give anything to people living with a chronic illness, it would be...

If I could give anything to people living with a chronic illness, it would be...
We used to have a fun holiday tradition in our office.  Around Thanksgiving, we would draw names for gift giving at Christmas.  Our lucky recipient would receive what they most wanted in the world – with money no object, but $20 our cash limit.  The tradition made for some creative gifting opportunities and lots of laughs, as well as some truly heartfelt moments.  My favorite giving experience was the globe with doves strategically placed all around in honor of the World Peace I knew my co-worker desired.

As I reminisced about this tradition, I wondered what my fellow chronic illness writers would wish for you, ProHealth readers.  So, I posed the question to them.  If only we could grant all the good hopes, wishes and dreams!

Rich Carson, the founder of ProHealth, wishes HOPE for all.  Rich has learned to enjoy the taste of lemonade many times over since being “friended” by ME/CFS, and his life is indeed a lesson in hope.  Thank you, Rich!

From laughter to courage to fortitude to a full recovery, the wishes are offered with intent and purpose.  Read on to discover the many thoughtful responses.

If I could give anything to people living with a chronic illness,
it would be...hope that after being diagnosed, all of their tomorrows are filled with joy, love, and a FULL life despite having fibromyalgia. I truly believe that each individual living with this beast is fabulous, and I want them to feel that they are from the top of their head to the bottom of their toes!
Kimberly, Fibro & Fabulous

If I could give anything to people living with a chronic illness,
it would be...the courage to fight against misinformation and raise awareness. We are not lazy, we are not hypochondriacs, we are people living with pain and many of the associated disorders. We are survivors. Celeste Cooper

If I could give anything to people living with a chronic illness,
it would be...laughter. Living with chronic pain and all the things that go with it like Depression and Anxiety, IBS, Migraines… smiling and laughing does not always come easy. It’s so important during this crazy time of the year to stop and enjoy life, and what’s better than a good laugh with friends and family!
Tamiko, My Foggy Brain

If I could give anything to people living with a chronic illness,
it would be...a sense of trust that things will work out. I believe that being relaxed and at peace is so important to good management and to support healing that I would want everybody to be able to approach their life with a trust that will bring them this peace. It's so much easier to make decisions and take steps forward when we're not worried about the outcome!

If I could give anything to people living with a chronic illness,
it would be...a cure.
Until we have the cure, I would give each person a free spa day, with different services depending on what will give them the most relaxation and pain relief, be that massage, a soak in a hot tub, a sauna session or simply listening to peaceful music. Holly Pacheco

If I could give anything to people living with a chronic illness,
it would be...Belief.
It would be a vast system of doctors and support programs that believe we are actually sick with a physical illness, treat us with the respect diagnosed diseases are given, and offer real-life assistance to help ?patients? survive the impact this illness has on a person's ability to work, care for themselves and their families, and remain connected to the outside world.
Leah Tyler, Chronicles of Fibromyalgia

If I could give anything to people living with a chronic illness,
it would be...health and full recovery.

If I could give anything to people living with a chronic illness,
it would be...the option to do nothing
Christmas can be busy and tiring, and can often feel overwhelming. I want the option to relax, to stay home and eat mince pies on my sofa without feeling like I have to be "doing" something to make the most of the festive period.
Sarah Borien, A Life Less Physical

If I could give anything to people living with a chronic illness,
it would be...fortitude.
So many of us, myself included, have been labeled as hypochondriacs, mentally ill, lazy and the list goes on. It's exhausting enough when you're sick every day, but it's soul-sucking when your loved ones or doctors don't believe you. For this holiday, my wish is for all of my fellow fibromites to find the courage and inner strength to become their own best advocate when it comes to their health. Dig deep! We're called warriors for a reason!
Donna Gregory Burch, Fed Up with Fatigue

If I could give anything to people living with a chronic illness,
it would be...the patience and knowledge to keep trying until they find what works to help themselves feel better. So often we rely on the doctors to give us the magic pill, but rarely do they have an answer. It comes down to us to research and often we don't have the energy, focus, or patience to do so. As a result, our symptoms get worse and we feel worse. I wish I could just hand every newly diagnosed Fibromyalgia patient the answer key, but it varies for each of us and we've got to dig to find it. Julie Ryan, Chronic Illness Bloggers

If I could give anything to people living with a chronic illness,
it would be...the gift of knowing how to manage their symptoms.
Melissa Swanson, Fibro Warriors ~ Living Life
