VIDEO: Interview with Jan Chambers on Upcoming Changes in the Federal Regulation of Pain Medications

In this video, Terry Springer, designer of FibroTrack*, interviews Jan Chambers, president of the National Fibromyalgia & Chronic Pain Association.  The focus of the interview is a discussion of the new regulatory changes relative to hydrocodone type pain medications being moved from Schedule III to Schedule II and the huge negative impact this will have on thousands of individuals suffering from fibromyalgia and other chronic pain conditions.

Chambers was involved as an advocate for chronic pain patients during the recent policy change meeting at the FDA.  Under pressure from the Drug Enforcement Agency which is struggling to address problems associated with prescription pain medication abuse and addiction, the FDA recently voted to reclassify certain types of pain medications from Schedule II and Schedule III.

This change in regulatory rules will jeopardize access to needed pain medications for millions of people who struggle with chronic pain.  Patients located in rural areas are likely to be the most seriously affected.

Chambers also discusses possible actions that chronic pain patients and advocates may be able to take in an effort to reverse this ruling.
