Hospital tried me on nitroglycerin--gave me major migraine

I went into the E.R. with some strange symptoms they thought might be heart related. They did give me two consecutive doses of powdered nitrogylcerin under the tongue and WOW, what a headache that went into a super major migraine for me. I suffer migraines, but this really hit and hit very strong. My heart is okay and they're going to forward me to a cardiologist for followup.

But just wanted to mention it for anyone that may end up on nitroglyercin.

I carry a bottle of nitro with me everywhere. I really believe it saved my life one day while up a canyon, and down my way back to camp. I could hardly breath right, but what a life saver. You spray it under the tounge. Thank goodness I had it in my pocket while walking around up there. Yes, and what a headache. Got to the ER, they kept me and did all the tests for a couple of days, then went back for an ablation..my second.
Still hoping you find the reason for the chest pain.
Take care, Cynthia

I'm so glad the nitro worked for you and indeed was a "life saver." I didn't even know they had it in a spray.

A remedy?

Anyone know if there is a remedy for those of us with migraines that need to take nitro? I haven't had the need yet, but do have chest pains so who knows when! Have any of your doctors made any suggestions?

love glen

Hi Glen

I don't know of any remedy. When I was in the Emergency Room and they gave me the nitroglycerin, they knew I was a migraine patient of a neurologist and warned me I could get really bad headaches and even migraines with it. With me, they dealt with the heart symptoms first and then later gave me the prescription migraine medication to deal with the migraine. Take care and good luck.
