Maxalt - too much?

My migraines have been out of control lately. For prevention, I am on:

(generic)Topamax -100mg - 2x
Diamox -125mg - 2x
Calcium/Magnesium -1200mg/600mg

I have been taking 2-3 Maxalt 10mg almost every day for the last 2 weeks. I called my headache neuro for help. He was out of the office giving a lecture. I was told the office staff would pass along my message (I have not received a phone call yet!) I can also use Parafon Forte for headaches. Sometimes I alternate, sometimes I will take it in combination w/ the Maxalt, other times just one or the other - depending on the intensity.

I do have an appointment in a few days. I will make sure to tell him about my desperate phone call.

I also have ME/CFS, Fibromyalgia, IC, IBS, chronic pelvic pain, herniated disks, chronic back pain, Sjogrens (am I leaving anything out?) So I am also on a list of other meds. I just went off Cymbalta (headache doc suggestion) & started on Savella (rheumy's advice).

I need to break this migraine cycle now!! I've been having almost daily migraines since stopping the Cymbalta. Absolutely worse in the last week; needing my abortive around the clock. My next step is the ER.

I do NOT want to go to the local ER; they will just ask me what I want to releive the migraine! They will not call an out of area doc. I am in NJ & my headache doc is in NYC. The local ER would just be an expensive waste of time for me. I should NOT be the one suggesting the course of treatment. I do not know what will work - I do not want just Dilaudid.

Sorry for ranting, I am just so frustrated!! When I see my neuro, I'm going to need another new abortive med.

Am I taking too much Maxalt?

Hi FM

I read up on Cymbalta and it is important not to come off it all at once or you can get many symptoms, including headache (which for us many times goes into migraines). Have you been slowly coming off it or did you come off all at once as that might be causing the migraines.

Call the doctor who prescribed the Cymbalta and explain the daily migraines and get a very slow schedule to come off the Cymbalta.

Maxalt

I did titrate off the Cymbalta very slowly as per my neuro's instructions. In fact, I took longer than he recommended to titrate down. I am quite aware of how important it is to titrate off medications, especially anti-depressants.

The MD that prescribed the Cymbalta is the one I am waiting to phone me back. I have an appointment w/ him on Tuesday.

I'm glad you came off very slowly, so as that is not it, I can't figure out any other suggestions. I hope you reach the doctor very soon because constant migraines, as we all here can vouch, is enough to stop us functioning completely.

Thank You!

I finally did receive a phone call from my doc & then did see him on Tues.

I'm titrating up on the Diamox, right now at 250mg 2x day. Have a script for 500mg 3x day.
He also did trigger point injections which do help.

I'm going to use 3 Advil along w/ whatever abortive (either Maxalt or Frova) I take. I'm hoping things will fall into place. I do not want to make too many changes at once, then I won't know what works for me. I am also going to start a Glutathione/Methylation Protocol Treatment Plan for CFS. I spoke to my headache neuro to make sure there is nothing in this protocol that would adversly affect my headaches. He agreed it may even be helpful - woohoo!

Thank you for all that read and commented, I appreciate your support!
