Dr put me on MAXALT today.
|
I don't know if it works yet but my new Dr put me on MAXALT-MLT today, she said it was a lot better than Imitex. Anyone here ever try it?

Maxalt
|
I've been on Maxalt for years (probably 8-10) and it has always been pretty effective for me. Personally, I use the pills rather than the tabs you melt under your tongue because I hate their taste, but that's just me. I've taken Imitrex, though, while hospitalized because they were more familiar with it than Maxalt (I have also been a Leukemia patient twice in the past three years, so have had hospitalizations for chemo rounds, transplant) and I actually felt the Imitrex worked as well for me as the Maxalt did. Now that Imitrex, I hear, has gone generic, I'm thinking of asking my migraine specialist (I see him Monday) for it, instead of Maxalt (unless it decides to go generic, too!) I can use the savings, and they seem to work equally for me. But to answer your original question, Maxalt has been great for me---the one thing I will say, is it can take up to an hour to work. But again, that could just be me. Good luck with it! Pam

I've tried it
|
And I don't want to scare you or anything but I had a terrible reaction to it. It is now on my list of allergic meds. My dr. was very surprised to hear of my reaction. I guess only 1 person in the thousands have the kind of reaction I did. I've never had a reaction to any migraine med before Maxalt and I still haven't had any other "allergies" with migraine meds. Let us know if it helps

I've tried now
|
Since my posting I have tried all 3 pills that the Dr gave me samples of, I couldn't tell I even toke anything. She doesn't like me being on the Midrin because of all the acetaminophen in it. So not sure what she is going to have me try next.

Maxalt

yes, I have it too...I only take it when it is a reallllly bad migraine and its lasting more than a day. I am not sure if that is the right way to take it. The reason I wait is that it knocks me totally out into space and if I do not lie down and sleep, I feel bad. My heart even feels wierd. Hard to explain...but not pleasant. BUT after a day or two of a migraine, I do break down and take one. One usually does it too. Just feel wiped out the day afterward. jmq

I have been on it for about 5 years. I find that it works best for me if I take it at the first sign of a migraine. love glen

I've been on Maxalt Melts now for about two years and find that if i catch the migraine early enough it can work - not always though :( and then is the decision as to whether or not to take a second - normally as another person said, they knock me out for quite a while. As it says in the leaflet you should take the second one at 2 hours after the first, so I consulted my GP as to what the criteria are for if it is longer than the 2 hours and he said yes to taking it - but the the effecacy my be less, so I then take it in tandem with tramadol which I am on for my chronic pain condition and normally that seems to take the worst of it away. I agree with the person who said about the taste of the melts not being great, but I cannot take the tablets at that early stage 'cos stomach has gone into shut down. Prior to Maxalt I was on the Imigran injections but they gave me really unpleasant side effect of constriction in the throat and most times I was so out of it I let the injection go off before I had got the pen into place - hey ho - so the change was much better for me.
